Small shop, big family, high energy
Sales and Stock Assistant (Former Employee) – Bromley – 9 January 2017
This was the first store within the company I worked in and it was the perfect introduction. On a typical day, my shift would last around 5 hours and I would spend that time giving consultations, engaging with customers and helping them find the right product for their needs.
Throughout my time with the store, I was able to experience my first time gaining retail based customer service skills. I gained great interpersonal skills and a number of attributes that are transferable to multiple job roles. I worked as both a stock and sales assistant, fulfilling orders and balancing tills, as well as booking in store parties and other administrative duties.
The management in store were fantastic, along with the team of supervisors. There was no sense of hierarchy, we all treated each other equally with the same level of respect and encouragement.
The hardest part about the job was definitely the size of the store, as a very small store, manoeuvring during peak times was a challenge and this led to a lot of conflict and tension between customers, meaning as sales assistants it was our duty to diffuse and manage the high tension moments and raise the atmosphere in the store to a happy, fun, high energy level and maintain positivity.
The most enjoyable part of the job was definitely being able to engage with the regular customers and the children that came in, it was wonderful being able to form friendships and keep people coming back into the store by giving them a great customer service they deserved.
