I'm now in my 4th year at this company, but after the first 6 - 12 months, they decided to change the way we got paid. instead of getting a salary they decided that we should get paid per job, which I did not like at all as the work levels are unsteady and go right down at christmas. If I had a family or lived by myself with bills to pay, having this job would not be possible as I don't know what I am getting paid from one week to the other. I am still employed by the Kelly Group so still get my holidays paid for and sometimes I will get paid more for taking a holiday than when I'm at work. All the new engineers from the change of pay, are also employed through a agency and self employed. If I was still on a salary I would enjoy the job a lot more, this is my 8th year in the industry and I think these companies and the owners are pushing the good engineers out and changing the job for the worst. I wouldn't recommend this job for someone who want to work in the industry as a career. You don't see many other co-workers unless you pass them in the street as you work from home and all the work gets sent to your work phone. The management change all the time along with 60% of the engineers and don't seem very good at the jobs. It badly organised and only get a phone call from them when something is wrong. Lots of the engineers don't get enough training before going out on there own. Some of which had never worked in the industry before. Being in the industry for so long and have stuck it out long enough to learn the knowledge, but means I am turning up to jobs where other engineers have failed and struggled to lack of knowledge and training. I also don't get to work close to where I live and have to travel 60-100 miles extra each day to get to and from work which is unpaid as I am getting paid for part or completed jobs ONLY. I do not get paid for jobs where I was unable to gain access or complete meaning that the job had to be returned to the provider, as this is not my fault I feel this is VERY unfair for me not get paid.
