Can't fault them, but you have to be an M&S person
Baker Street (Former Employee) – London, ENG – 17 July 2013
I joined them on a graduate training scheme as a Selector Trainee in the basic department of men's underwear.
I was being trained, technically, as a buyer who not only had to put together a range of merchandise but to also be responsible for the quality of garments coming out of the factories, which were at the time I was with them all in the UK.
They are a very successful Company and Whilst I was in awe of the the way they did business, it seemed almost to be an exact science...nothing was left to chance.
However, I could not agree with, nor work with their managerial style which seem to be based on fear. The board kicked the executives, the executives kicked the managers and on and on all the way down the chain. I found it difficult to respond to that style of management and for that reason I, whilst I loved the job, decided I wouldn't be best motivated that way and decided to leave.
Very sucessful, large well run Company. Good salaries and benefits.
