Poor culture
They talk a lot about values, however behaviours of staff and senior leaders is often contrary to these. Also if you are 'different' it can be a very difficult place to work as the organisation does not act against individuals that behave in what would be viewed as offensive / inappropriate in another organisation.

Never Got Paid
The training & trainers were amazing, a really lovely experience in this department. However, Payroll were absolutely appalling, you never get the correct wage and they are extremely difficult, rude and inconsiderate of personal circumstances. If you have dependants this isn't the greatest place to work, you never know what you have to survive on month to month.

Needs Work
YAS values look good but some managers need to look at the values and work to them. A place where if your face fits you are ok. Quite blame culture orientated.

Management based not bothered about wellbeing always short staffed lone working in a station
On average the vehicle take 2/230 hrs to do one ambulance you have 15-20 vehicles in a 10 hr shift on your own at time's these things saves life's you get it wrong. People die and the blame is on you you have to sign it off be aware .... Constant pressure and management are clowns love the NHS and the lower end staff good work

Rewarding
Varied work on a daily basis. Colleagues become your 2nd family. Life skills and medical skills learnt. No family/work life balance. Wages are fair. Management can be hit and miss. Autonomous working. Training provided. Can have very difficult jobs but remaining professional can be difficult. Can meet some fantastic people who become lifelong friends. Feel like you make a difference when helping families in their worst times.

Terrible
Not about patient care, senior managers all for themselves, no compassion to staff or patients.
Long shift which wasn’t a problem but constantly forced overtime.

Unorganised meaning may be moved around Yorkshire to complete your shift and at short notice Hull to Bradford for one shift. The best job in the world I used to think but unfortunately ruined by managers full of self importance

Didn't want to leave but the hours were awkward and traveling time
Would love to go back to work for YAS but no vacancies in what i want .
It was a long way to travel for 3 hours a day

I wish i would have stayed and gave the job longer it could have lead to something else in NHS maybe.

Big regret my fault really same as i say would love to go back .

Undervalued
The PTS Call Handler position is Monotonous and isolating. Every day is exactly the same. You receive daily verbal abuse from callers, Team Leaders and management leave you to deal with stressful situations without support or intervention.
No scope for social interaction with work colleagues as the calls are end to end throughout the shift. No breaks given just half hour lunch break for full time staff.

Bad atmosphere and low morale within the department which is exasperated by being short staffed adding to preassure.

It is a Band 2 position but the complexity and nature of the job In my opinion exceeds base level.

Unfortunately I had to leave due to lack of support from management.

Great job, badly managed
Ambulance work takes a special type of person, but YAS don't appreciate and support their hard working dedicated staff. On the other hand, many employed by YAS should have been let go years ago, managers in particular can fail in their task and be side-stepped instead of sacked.

Easy Work, Tough Life
I worked part of the 999 call team. The work can be interesting but 75% of the time its the same thing, same types of call, and you're never learning anything new.

The working environment is very informal, and far from professional, to say its part of NHS.

Had to leave because like most people it just messes with your head. 12 hour shifts, on and off. Sometimes went days without sleep, and not due to constamtly being at work but it having affects on your personal life.

If youre in to just doing your job and getting out of there and able to bite the bullet, and able to take the occasional 'racist banter' then feel free to join.

Rewarding and proud place to work!!!
Training is absolutely amazing, you gain so much knowledge and experience within such a short amount of time... the staff are brilliant! Everyone makes you feel welcome and like you’re part of one big family, no matter how long you’ve been in the trust. Very supportive managers and colleagues and a lot of career pathways which makes it manageable to work your way up to where you want to be! Couldn’t be happier working for YAS and never felt so proud to wear a uniform!
Pros
Support, friendliness, pathways to success
Cons
Fast-paced and demanding

Very poorly managed
Very poor management on every level, with increasing demand and decreasing quality from ambulance control as well as senior management.

Can be rewarding at times, when not dealing with inappropriate or misclassified incidents.

Have occasionally worked 10 consecutive hours (ie, an entire shift) without being given the opportunity or choice to take a break.
Pros
Occasionally rewarding
Cons
Excessive hours and poor management

Not Quite The Hype They Give You At Interview!!
Progression and Advancement Opportunities- if your face fits!
Family Friendly Hours - YAS is the family, don’t expect to see yours much as operational front line. If you don’t like it - Leave (quote/unquote)

Ongoing Training & Development - yes on fire extinguishers! Pity it’s not so robust about the ‘clinical refresher training’

If you love the ‘helping people and giving something back’ then this jobs for you. Don’t expect to be ‘cared about/well thought of/thanked unless you’re a Wakefield HQ Desk Jockey - front line don’t matter
Pros
Paid well for what you do
Cons
Hours, Managers, treatment and wellbeing of staff

Great co workers
Very good place to work and co workers are mainly good some not so. Management could be better but that is not just this company. Every team leader is fantastic and will help where they can when you need it. It's a varied day every day and can often be challenging. Not much chance of advancement in your career but you have to push yourself for this. You have o going g training that is relevant to your job role. Just needs to have more structure in the team from management.
Pros
Salary. Co workers. Tesm leaders
Cons
Work home life balance. Management.
