No. I don't think they even checked references as my contract of employment which had paperwork attached that asked for references, wasn't sent to me until months after I started

Bad management from the top right down to store management. When I first went to work for Wilkinsons I was proud to work for a company that was family run. Not any more certain family members, CEO's, and directors should be ashamed of themselves to allow this once brilliant company to work for to end up being a organisation based on greed and bad management. Putting profits before workers and allowing bad man-management practices to take place at store level is totally unacceptable. Many years back the GMB union would have a strong arm to flex against this company when it tried to bring in its unfair practices. But over the years they have grown weaker and weaker rolling over onto their backs like a submissive lap dog allowing the so called family to destroy workers rights and benefits. I would never recommend wilkos as a place to work for anyone not even my own worst enemy. As far as store managers are concerned, there are many of you that need to wake up and see exactly what you are allowing to happen in your stores through bad managment practices and negative people skills. As with the staff below you your just a employee number to the Wilkinson family and you too are just as expendable as those below you.

Wilko are the experts on part time contracts...their business model is fully reliant on short contracts.

You only have to work a fifth iof your weekly contract a day. So 15 hour contract 5 X 3 hours shifts 20 hour 5 X 4. Any more hours you do is overtime and should not affect the rest of your week. So if you're on 20 hour contract and do 3 hour extra one day they cannot take the 3 hours off of another days hours. Rotas are one of the most important tasks in management yet no thought goes into most of them. Your iffy hours are pure and simply down to poor management!
