A great environment to be in. Very friendly staff and the customers are amazing too — you never know who you’re going to meet. Fast paced and driven to work.

Sales Assistant (Former Employee) –  South Shields, Tyne and Wear18 February 2020
while i am working at Wickes i have noticed a few things, one of the major ones being is the managers are NEVER happy. you could be given a list of jobs in a shift that would be on a stupid time frame. they never give any form of praise. you could have been given a list of 15 jobs and got 14 done in your shift and they would say well done for getting that done they would say why haven't you got this job done yet? you work to slow and need to speed up., the level of work they expect from you for being treat the way you are and on minimum wage is actually crazy.

Picker/Loader (Former Employee) –  Erith18 February 2020
great place to learn about trade skills and retail skills at the same time, working with the team should become fun so the company can run like a well oiled machine, speak out about problems you have or wanting to climb up the ladder otherwise opportunities wont come to you

Good training, group activities and social nights. Enjoyed working with the customers and everyone who works there is easy going and helpful. Opportunities to progress and a highly supportive store manager.

Operations Manager (Current Employee) –  Dunstable, Bedfordshire13 February 2020
The culture, atmosphere and work life balance are brilliant with Wickes. The only thing that lets them down is the salaries. They are poor compared to a lot of others retailers, but they make it up with other things more important than money

Wickes is a hard-working place, you need to put the work in otherwise you fall behind. They do reward you for doing well. management is relaxed as long as targets are getting hit.

Customer Assistant (Former Employee) –  Brentwood9 February 2020
Given unrealistic time periods to complete tasks and were often a lot shorter of staff than other stores. Can be very stressful at times because of this.

Design consultant (Former Employee) –  Worcester, Worcestershire6 February 2020
I spent two years working at Wickes as a design consultant and did enjoy my time there . They looked after me with the training they gave and my colleagues were always at hand to help and give me advice . You need to be on your a game allmof the time as the role is quite demanding but you do get rewarded well

Awful place to work
Customer services / Forklift driver (Former Employee) –  Folkestone, Kent5 February 2020
I have never worked in a place where backstabbing and job paranoia was a everyday occurance. Management are the worst I have seen and they would stop at nothing to climb there way to the top. The staff are treated like sub humans and have no practical knowledge of the product they sell.
The products they sell are often sub standard after being stored in outside areas. They care more about sales than customer relations.

Sometimes it can be challenging especially being asked questions in sectors you may not know much about. Best place to help people fulfil their dream designs.

Tough demanding role, lots if team work.
Store Manager (Former Employee) –  South Coast27 January 2020
Demanding role, however lots of job satisfaction. All the positives lost by the oppression of a warped Regional controller, who personally attacked managers in his team trying to dominate and belittle them. I understand he has been made redundant now, not before time.

Customer Service Advisor (Former Employee) –  Oldham, Greater Manchester26 January 2020
Worst company I have ever worked for, management were clueless, never wanted to help staff or customers, do not work for this company, wage is poor for the work that you do, treated like dirt here, they try to tell you you've had your breaks and then argue with you when you fight back, management in my store ridiculed the other staff members, favouritism is ride in their stores and it's very clicky clicky, clickysaway

The hardest part of the job is it is physically demanding everyday. The people were mostly great with many great memories and banter wherever there was time.

Alright place to work at
Store Assistant (Former Employee) –  Oxford, Oxfordshire17 January 2020
Pacing at work was generally fine, some heavy lifting involved, customer service and product knowledge and stock rotation etc. Pay was fine, competitive when started but raised way too late to reflect changes in minimum wage cap. Good friendly team, regardless of what part of the store you worked for.
Probably the weakest bit to the job was management, which changed several times and most of the management was out of touch with other staff, almost alienating.
