Good to lead a team in store but issues elsewhere
Operations & Deputy Store Manager (Former Employee) –  Merton, Greater London4 October 2018
Overall as a manager in store the job role was enjoyable with reasonable work flexibility. However I feel HR and conflict within the organisation could be handled a lot better
Pros
Flexibility with rotas, pay was at a good level, generally a good in store environment
Cons
Poor management in some areas, HR process could be improved drastically, communication between levels needs urgent attention.

Potenial to be a good company again!
Operations Manager (Former Employee) –  United Kingdom2 October 2018
Wickes takes more than it gives but if you have no skills and need to gain experience in working life and gain confidence as long as you have a great mentor and put Wickes first you can easily excell and gain great skills which you can apply to other retail jobs or move up the career ladder internally.

You can come complacent and bored at Wickes as it doesn't attract quality workers due to it being a minimum wage job so get use to the bus load of school leavers to arrive ever summer whilst they do their A levels to gain extra cash before university.
Pros
My Perks - 100s of discounts at retailers
Cons
Wages are not competative and only Closes 2 days a year

Nice enough people but not an ideal workplace
Store/ Warehouse Assistant (Former Employee) –  Bournemouth17 September 2018
Wickes is nice enough to work for, very simple work and very friendly employees but it is definitely primarily a business, pay is bad and you are required to work holidays at no extra wage, shifts change frequently too.

If your face fits you're ok
Customer Service Advisor (Former Employee) –  Wiltshire7 September 2018
The job is ok and no problems with customers. Management play the favourites game, they've reduced everyone's hours with no overtime unless you are one of the favourites. If you want to do any outside courses such as college courses or look for a second job they won't swap shifts to allow you do so. Management seem to think that you have to put work before your personal life even when off duty. Wages are poor and no sick pay. Unless you have what's app you will not get told anything such as Rota changes which they can change without informing you. All in all not a good place to work because unless your family or a favourite they treat you like rubbish.

Overall, was a lovely place to work in with thorough training methods and overtime always being a possibility, however the only problem was strain on the workforce with the balancing wage received, due to the low numbers.

Yard manager (Current Employee) –  Barnstaple, Devon19 August 2018
Good company and management when i started. management has changed, less staff, more responsibilities, minimum wage and no change. There is no difference in pay between someone just starting on the shop floor as its a free for all.
Pros
good people to work with
Cons
poor pay and attitude

absolutely disgusting and disappointed
Customer Service Assistant (Former Employee) –  Sheffield, South Yorkshire14 August 2018
the managers get comfortable with calling you names to make a laugh for the other employees. The doesn’t compensate for the hours of labour and being talked to badly by customers and other employees. DO NOT BE FOOLED - wickes is the most gossipy customer service environment ive ever worked for.
Cons
bad management, negative work place, strives off target and not making employees happy, bad working hours, bad pay, no sick pay

Customer Service Advisor (Current Employee) –  Brackmills, Northampton9 August 2018
Depending on what role you work in, you will either be working on line that is either inbound our outbound.
You will be expected to manage your own workload.
The management are supportive and complete a monthly review to focus on targets and areas to improve on.
The centre is fairly sized with lots of people in various departments. Everyone knows everyone and the most enjoyable part of the job is the organisation of staff events i.e Christmas party, Summer events, etc.
Pros
A lot of employee incentives

The job is ok only if you wish to make some money quickly and leave to pursue a career.
In the past, it was a great place to work. Can't say what changed but it has. Such a shame.
