Job is good, the company have no desire for a work life balance. expected to be available to take calls and work on your days off. Last minute changes to rota. No chance to plan anything personal.
Cons
Long Hours, Late nights, lack of a work life balance

Worked for a number of years at WBAC, If you perform well and meet the ever changing targets they set you will be left alone to get on with it but the minute you are not buying loads of cars and taking money of the offer you make to the customer they slap you with a “performance improvement plan” An example of this would be that even without a manager seeing the car you are buying you will get a slap on the back if you constantly devalue the vehicle by over 30% which only results in the customer getting less money for the car but the company making more money.
Any car that is under 10years old you buy will be examined again by our parent company BCA before going to auction, your bonus is based the final monetary offer you buy the car for compared to the amount of damage you have found on the car when purchasing. In my experience the buyers that make most bonus are the buyers that find a lot of damage on a car when there is none there, eg BCA will find always 100% of the damage on a car but the high bonus earners typically find over 150% damage on a car, make of that what you will!!!

On the other hand there is good bonus to be made for the elite buyers in the company, until of course the company thinks you are making too much money so they raise your targets. That is a result of the very amateurish senior management thinking they can squeeze a bit more performance out Of a buyer by trying to push you harder, they are of the opinion that the stick is better than the carrot when dealing with employees, very old fashioned motivational models that have no place in the 21st

Pressurized to buy cars with strict guild lines. When even asking managers what are the reasons for these guidelines they have no answers. Just to buy cars even when it’s very hard. No understanding. Expect you to pressurize customers in selling their cars without using pressure.
Pros
Nothing
Cons
Unless you are a certain skin colour you won’t end up excelling within the company

When I interviewed for the job, it was definitely dressed up to look like a completely different job. Retail Branch ‘Manager’ is a very loose term. The only reason they have given you that title is because you are responsible for the branch as you work completely on your own day-to-day.

There is no management apart from you need to make sure you have enough stationary and supplies in the branch, and even then when you run out management expect you to pay out of your own pocket such as paper, you then have to wait months before they get around to sorting out your expenses, same goes for your fuel you’ve paid out of your own pocket in order to travel to a different branch as a ‘favour’.

I learnt the hard way by doing a couple of favours after being pressured shortly after starting by having to open my own branch before completing my two weeks training with an experienced buyer. I then had a phone call out of work hours pressuring me into covering a busier branch that I’ve not worked in which was also five times the distance I would usually travel to work. An area manager said he would stay with me and support me for the day as I was new to the business, he stayed for about an hour before leaving me on my own. After an extremely stressful day I returned to work the next day and didn’t even receive a thank you.

When it came my turn to ask a favour and ask for a day off for a funeral, I was point blank refused as “there is nobody to cover and the branch needs to be open for a certain amount of hours” that is when I knew I was just a number in the company.

Long hours and unfair commission structure that is constantly changing. Lots of unpaid work expected, delivering keys to and from other branches either before you start or after you have finished a 10 hour shift.

Your start time is 10.00am but you have to be there and ready to listen to a conference call from a regional manager at 9.45 am. Then your day starts. They have recently changed your appointment time from 30 minutes per customer to 20 minutes per customer and have changed the system to allow double booking. So your day can start with 6 appointments in the first hour.
There are many different reasons why someone would want to sell their car and some of the reasons could be dubious and can effect you if you get it wrong. Therefore in the first instance you need to build a rapport with the customer, then you need to verify their paperwork, then assess the vehicle (outside, in all weathers and light conditions), load your assessment into the system that would then advise you the offer. Invariably, the discussion arises that the customer was originally offered X and is now being offered a lot less. Then starts to process of explaining why , and this can encompass many reasons, firstly the condition of the vehicle (when customers go on line they rarely add condition so therefore their vehicle is quoted as a grade 1 vehicle. The quote system does not make it easy / obvious for condition to be added, also recently the answerable question initially regarding MOT has been removed. This then gives an initial quote value higher than it is likely to be after assessment) and other variables such as mileage was wrong, EML light on, imported vehicle, wrong vehicle put on quote system...the list go on and on....All these things could have been made available (easily) to the customer when doing

Excellent relaxed role and very supportive management.
There is very little opportunity to progress though and some days are crazily busy but others are very slow. A little like feast or famine.

I recently left WBAC due to the bonus structure. You can lose all your bonus if appointments fail to show up, you cannot plan your life around that. Apart from that the training is also flawed, most of the work is admin based on the CRM system which for some strange reason you are not trained in, after induction (very good) you are sent to branch to be trained by an experienced buyer who may not actually have the time to train you in a busy branch. I feel WBAC has a good proposition for clients and during my time we purchased a lot of different cars however as a family man with bills to pay the fact that I could not plan my life around an unknown take home salary made me seek a different sales opportunity.

Lots of negative reviews on here but I have been working for them over 1.5 years and yes it is a challenging role day to day but you should be focused and delivering exceptional customer service in order to gain satisfaction and perform well in your role as a branch manager, Managers are available at all times for support on purchases with organised team events and continuous training available for those who need it, Progression is also available for those who want to exceed

it's a job for people who may need a job desperately & want to get some automobile experience.
You may learn a few things from what the job teaches you but dont expect RM to show you any guidance.

Things can get immoral and unprofessional making customers uncomfortable & putting them in tight situations.

The work environment isn't great. You are placed in pods like a cage and expected to deal with a list of calls, chasing booked apps (if they dont come in apprently that's your fault, it's marked against you getting bonus STUPIDITY) you don't Have a set time for lunch it's an open diary so you can never plan ahead as anyone can turn up & want to be seen which you then get blamed for not converting customers.

Do not even apply for a job with these cowboys. They sell you the job making out you are a “branch manager” but you are infact bullied and managed every second of the day by “above” mangers who are infact not mangers they cannot manage anything & have no experience whatsoever in business. Was funny watching them try to manage staff, walking in the office thinking they are the big I am. New RM in the north east is venom hasn’t a clue what she’s doing All buyers are however sound and watch your back for you ;) WEBAC rip customers off by not following a reasonable valuing protocol which they did go to trading standards for a few yrs bk. No social life and unprofessional company! AVOID

What a joke this company is. They do not care for staff, only buying cars. Buyers are pushed well beyond their limits and work way past their working hours, never see that time back either! Incentives never get followed through and the bonus structure is designed to not earn bonus. They tell you you can earn £400 a week but realistically £200 a week. Buyers who have been there for years struggle to earn more than £200 per month! You’re lucky if you earn £50 bonus a month and that’s working hard. Unrealistic and don’t care. One in, three out.

Little or no work life balance. You might be expected to buy high end cars from customers only looking for a price. The system books appoinments automatically online and double bookings are not unheard of. Imagine dealing with two angry customers in 20 mins. Sure not all the car buying is complicated but things are rarely straight forward. If someone dos'nt sell a car it goes against you. and if you don't hit the target they you will be threatened and sacked which you will see happening around you. Oh and by the way quite a few "branches" don't have a toilet or microwave or even a tap so expect to beg of other retailers and malls to let you use their facilities multiple times a day which embarrassing provided there are no customers to attend-you don't want to keep people waiting because there was a que at the McDonalds toilet. If you don't appraise the vehicle properly which can be hard to do if your pressed for time then expect the boss to have a go at you. After all your only buying a 50,000 pound range rover so your expected to skim over it as quickly as possible. The price that the company offers is rarely appreciated by the customer who will want to haggle in that 20 mins too.
