Customer service (Former Employee) –  Barry, Vale of Glamorgan31 December 2017
I worked for a short while in Waitrose. There are many aspects of Waitrose that set it apart from other retailers in the UK. It has a unique customer base and is very original in the way it benefits its customers.

Nice place to work, friendly staff
Nightshift Replenishment Partner (Current Employee) –  Waitrose, Glasgow27 December 2017
Working in the nightshift team presents different challenges rather than day shift. The shifts are very long (11 hours) and very physical. Set days rotas are the best for a stable weekly work pattern but most rotas available are on a 2 weekly basis with shift patterns being rather overwhelming at times.

Waitrose has top class management policies and people. There is always an interest in training you if you are facing difficulties in either soft skills or technical skills.

Goes at it's own pace!

Blue Arrow Account Manager (Former Employee) –  Bracknell, Berkshire19 December 2017
I recruited all staff for our Waitrose Contract, I liaised with at least 20 Managers and departments to recruit suitable staff to the distribution warehouse. My Managers were some of the nicest people I have had the pleasure to work with. The workplace could be a difficult place for our staff to work as it was targeted.

Awful management, too little staff
Supermarket Assistant (Former Employee) –  Keynsham, Somerset16 December 2017
All of the staff were absolutely wonderful aside from the main management team. They were rude, not understanding of their colleagues, demanded too much work from staff, e.g. expecting one person to do a job meant for 3 people. Pay was okay and you do get a christmas bonus but the management did not make this job pleasurable for me
Pros
Christmas bonus, flexible
Cons
Bad management, understaffed, underappreciated

Assistant Section Manager (Former Employee) –  Surrey14 December 2017
A really busy retail environment with challenging targets and sales expectations. Good camaraderie and strong leadership. A typical day at work included staff morning meetings with targets set for the day, then a full on day of not stop work and customer service.

Bekery partner
Bakery Assistant (Current Employee) –  Hertfordshire12 December 2017
The work is full on and there are never the full amount of staff on - they seem to go sick a lot. The culture seems to be that of rushing around to get the work done without much thought to either worker satisfaction or safety. Since I have been there each week at least have had an injury and the attitude is it just happens anfd trying to get them to make things better is a joke and getting them to fill in accident report forms difficult. Quite shocked at this company it reminds me of Dickens' times where children would have to dash under looms and try to avoid being crushed. The only good thing I have to say is the name carries clout as best supermarket most years so good for kudos.
Pros
kudos
Cons
high chance of injury

Retail Customer Services Assistant (Current Employee) –  Havant10 December 2017
The job itself is good, with most of the staff its enjoyable however, can be made a difficult place to work and enjoy working. employees make it flexible with a college life however managers don't, and if no one can cover your shift is very difficult to be able to put college life and commitments first.
Pros
nice employees
Cons
no flexibility

Fur coat no knickers company
Assistant (Former Employee) –  North West7 December 2017
Where do I start?
What initially seemed a decent well liked company with high ideals has been found out as a poorly managed company with only profit the priority. Too many departments wanting details on applying for the job, the IT systems are prehistoric and training is basically down to yourself and the computer. You do not get the correct uniform or tools for the job either. The "bonus" is not worth it anymore either. Never saw the top managers, just lots and lots of middle managers.
Pros
15% off groceries after three months
Cons
Terrible management

Meat and fish counter (Former Employee) –  Crawley, West Sussex6 December 2017
If your working Saturdays it's almost gaurentted no one will ever cover your shift which = no days off for you!. Training is also very limited, other co workers will train you, there's no proper guidelines which is both a bonus and a downfall
Pros
Good pay, good lunch breaks
Cons
Inflexible, limited training, left on your own if on a counter
