Shocking
Facilities Manager (Former Employee) –  Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear20 October 2019
Treated all staff like dogs, apart from the lazy ones. The very few. They have 5 star ideas and 1 star budget. Managers are clueless and lazy.
Do not work for this company. Long hours, summer turnaround is a nightmare.

Head office and site Managers completely out of touch with ground operations
Customer Service Assistant (Former Employee) –  South West20 October 2019
Please don't let the pay attract you to this job. That is literally the only positive about working for VITA and they almost rely on that keeping staff. Expected to to work far above contracted hours. Head office care about their sites in Manchester but are woefully ignorant to other sites. Disorganised. Lacking communication unless it's a pet project. Students pay a lot and expect better value for their money. It is a business however there is lone between profit and service, the former being more important to VITA. If they wish to change conditions of contracts they change job titles to get away with it.

Awful place to work
Night officer (Former Employee) –  Manchester, Greater Manchester19 October 2019
Worst job I have ever had. No recognition for hard work. If your face doesn’t fit they will find any excuse to terminate your contract. Contracted hours 22 and done 60 hours a week because of how short staff they are. They will promise you you will be holding events and doing a lot of stuff with vita but realistically they hold an event and the night staff just have to clean up everything after the day Staff. I would strongly not recommend to go for this job. Because you won’t be there a year from now

Avoid at all costs!
Night officer (Former Employee) –  Manchester City Centre, Greater Manchester17 October 2019
In the induction the management act like they are some positive happy people and vita is all about “family and helping one and other” first day they throw you in with NO and I repeat NO training. So when you do a mistake they strike you down with a recorded warning. A colleague got jumped by 3 students whilst being on shift on his own at night time and he got sacked for that. After you seen clearly on footage that he didn’t start nor hit any of them back. I done over 200 hours every month because of short staffed after being on a 22 hour contract and didn’t get any thank you. Turn over is very high and wouldn’t be surprised if you got sacked after 2 months. Management changes hours on rota cloud without informing you and then expecting you to do them shifts. No recognition for hard work as I was a 22 hour contract worker doing over 200 hours a month. Managers will look for the littlest dust in the room and say “you’ve missed a spot” and make you stay. Met a lot of amazing residents and learnt a lot of cultures but vita as a whole.

Wouldn't recommend
Receptionist (Former Employee) –  Newcastle upon Tyne14 October 2019
Worked for vita for about a year and a half, the company didn't care about losing good, hard working staff. Just wanted night staff to do the work of two people during the busiest times. You'll have be able to do anything and everything and do every job in the building. Security in the building was terrible to the point where anybody could be in the building and you would have no idea. Avoid at all costs.

Poor management
Night Officer (Former Employee) –  Southampton21 August 2019
Decent place to work, plus side get to interact with residents from all over the world. Good atmosphere, only reason i left is because of the residence manager. Saving budget by cutting hours and getting the night staff to do everything. Which affects the service level of the site. Being pressured to do long hours 60+ a week but only on 30 hour contract. Disappointed with the outcome, high staff turnover because of management.

Worst place I have ever worked!
Housekeeper (Former Employee) –  Southampton12 June 2019
Terrible company to work for! More staff turnover than I’ve had got dinners. Management disgusting talk down to you & treat you like your below them! I’d like to see them put on some marigolds and get there precious false nails dirty! Everyone has been fired or left because of management! No recognition for a good job! Place is a shambles! All they care about is money! Regularly ran out out of chemicals needed to do the job! Was given electrical equipment not sufficient to carry out the tasks required of them! Students were all miserable & wouldn’t even give you the time of day! Just plain rude. Stay clear!

Housekeeper (Former Employee) –  Newcastle upon Tyne13 April 2019
Advice to new housekeepers
1. Don't give 100 percent
2. Don't show up for work every day
3. Don't work over contracted hours
4. Don't show initative
5. Don't go above and beyond your job title
6.Don't listen to promises from management
for promotion thats never kept.
7. If you have fresh new ideas your probably in the wrong job here.
8. Don't think your essential to vita your disposable
9. If you have 5star standards just work to 2 star like everyone else at vita.
Work for them at your peril and always watch your back. Trust no one and don't listen to their lies. Follow all of the above and you'll probably do well. Dont think big theres not much point.

Very clicky
Staff Member (Former Employee) –  Southampton9 April 2019
Management are clueless, they say they put people 1st but all they care about is making as much money as possible before they sell the company.

No training while they expect the staff to do impossible jobs through the night which is the busiest time no wondering the staff turn over is so high.

As for career development, forget it! You only get on if your kiss up to a certain person (obviously I won’t name her on here) it’s a clicky place and be.

Avoid this place unless your insane! Owh and the stuff they tell you in the interview about “community” family environment and special events etc is a lie.
Pros
There are s few good people trying to do their best
Cons

Vita Student Manchester - Don't bother
Night Customer Service Assistant (Former Employee) –  Manchester, Greater Manchester5 January 2019
They are a joke they pay you £1.50 above the going rate but expect you to do the work of two people. They don't even pay you for all the hours that you work even though you clock in and out. They are terrible employers the staff turnover is really high and they will sack you if you if your face doesn't fit and make up some excuse and completely bypass their own disciplinary procedure. One housekeeper couldn't come in on one day because her child was ill they sacked her. It's all about the money - all their accomodations are under staffed and their teams over-worked. Don't waste your time with this employer!
Pros
The students are lovely
Cons
The hours, the management, lack of training, work load

Vita Student York
Housekeeper (Former Employee) –  York9 October 2018
Most incompetent set of managers I've ever worked under. Complete inability to plan longer than 2 weeks in advance, everything planned within that 2 weeks is completely disorganised due to lack of communication, organisational skills, lack of common sense, lack of logistics and lack of basic numeracy skills from management, who have no experience of the hotel or hospitality business.

Company culture is money-orientated to the extreme. Financial corners are cut on equipment and amenities anywhere they can, yet management always find a magic money tree on the rare occasion investors turn up to the site. Management prioritise one-off special occasions over the normal day-to-day running of the place, so investors & head office get a distorted view of the place, management get undeserved praise & merrily sleepwalk until the next faux parade, to the detriment of all staff working under them.

Contracted hours are a base level, expect to work almost double that all the time since the "needs of the business" must constantly be adhered to, however unrealistic or impractical they are. Because of this complete lack of consistency, shambolic organisation and the bullying nature of management, staff turnover is very high. Hence, you'll be expected to work way more than your contracted hours.

A normal work day involves being given a set of tasks to do, whether that is cleaning a number of specific rooms, cleaning corridors, litter-picking e.t.c. In addition, you must also complete all tasks in the shortest possible time, to the highest possible quality, while adhering to the company
more... rules and regulations at all times.

Because of the numerous problems listed above, it is simply impossible to abide by all 3 conditions at the same time: cloths, cleaning products, hoovers and mops are sometimes missing, valuable time is lost searching for products and hoovers; there's only 1 sink in each building to fill up mop buckets (on the ground floor, impractical) so be prepared to carry lots of things to the 3rd floor (no lifts, gotta save money); since the site is large with many buildings, you'll have to carry some things across site as well as up & down stairs all day, yet still perform all tasks as quickly as possible; rules and regulations arbitrarily invented and applied by management often inhibit effective and fast cleaning to the highest possible standard.

The superficial and money-orientated nature of the company has created a physical site ill-suited to employees with no sense of practicality, resulting in an unsafe, impractical working environment.
The rules capriciously created and enforced by head office and management are contradictory, illogical and not conducive to an efficient working environment.
The general incompetence of management, lack of basic knowledge about the site itself, lack of understanding towards employees and slavish devotion to the unattainable ideals of the company result in a dictatorial, quasi-oppressive working environment. Superficial friendliness masks delusional hubris.

In short, do not be swayed by the rate of pay: You'll be asked to swallow a lot of snake oil for 0 respect and 0 gratitude in return.

Management very incompetent, all they care about is looking good for head office visits, treat you like school kids, having to ask if you can go for your break is a complete farce, no break structure, rotars are a joke unless your management then you don't seem to have to work a weekend, it's an investment company so all they care about is profit

Customer Service Advisor (Current Employee) –  Newcastle upon Tyne21 September 2017
Management gie differing ideas of what to do, there are no clearly defined job roles, jobs that are supposed to be done during the day are left for the night staff to complete. With no prior warning, your rota can be changed completely, the management can override your timesheets so that you aren't actually paid for any overtime you work.
Pros
Generous pay
Cons
Long hours, can be asked to perform duties outside of your job role, possibility of not being fully paid

CSA (Current Employee) –  Exeter21 August 2017
the job is great, mixing with smart intelligent ambitious people thats the positive,, having kids entrust you with all kinds of problems worries etc, having made friends all over the world. the job is a privilage however working night that have no rota order, that is incredible poor. there should be a static four on four off, extras for holiday or sick leave is to be expected, but a rota of here there and everywhere, i cannot arrang for anything and now that is becoming an issue. i am still employed with the company, a new contract being offered will not let me work for a competitor so i cant sign that
Pros
everything i enjoy
