service manager (Former Employee) –  Chigwell9 September 2019
Great place to begin a career. Was a friendly atmosphere and boosted my confidence massively. I also gained management experience which assisted in my transition into the roll of construction manager. I left virgin active due to the low wage i was paid.

Great job to get a start in sales in a very fun environment. The staff were great and it became very much like a family. I recommend for graduates and people who want to learn about fast sales. Great training.

Membercare Assistant (Former Employee) –  London, Greater London7 August 2019
To many people in this company being paid to do very little while others work themselves into the ground.
Management couldn’t careless as long as they are left alone and not asked to deal with anything
It’s a great place to work if you love feeling under appreciated no matter what you do
Pros
Some nice people
Cons
Management too young

Awful
Membercare Assistant (Former Employee) –  Northampton6 August 2019
Terrible management who have no idea how to run the club or who anyone is. Minimum wage. The rota is always out late and your shifts can change with very little notice. The company is currently restructuring so there is no job security and they are expecting people to do twice the amount of work in the same amount of time with out any extra benefits. Little to no support or training provided. Unrealistic targets.
Pros
Free membership for you and a friend
Cons
Terrible management, little to no progression

Service/ Shift Manager and Front of House (Current Employee) –  London18 June 2019
Front of house severely underpaid for what is expected of them. Most managers get away with letting front line staff do most work. Departmental management is abysmal. Hard work is not rewarded and laziness is. Only plus is free gym

avoid it at all cost
staff (Current Employee) –  London8 June 2019
The company used to be great but it has changed in the past 2-3 years. The jobs are not secure, there is no respect or recognition for the employees. so many clubs are tired and old and need updating , members complain ( rightly so as the y pay a lot of money) and the staff can not do anything as head office does not listen. Jobs are not secure at all. If you are not a YES MAN and have an opinion on anything, you are shut down and they will make sure they make your life as hard as possible.

the company used to be great for opportunities to grow and go up the ladder but now you are lucky if you even keep your current job.

many good valuable head office staff have been made redundant and cheep illiterate nationals have replaced them in almost every department. They did not use their great general managers to become regional directors, instead they brought regional directions from waitrose! you can tell they have never even lifted a pencil and they have literally no understanding of the health club needs or reasons behind commercials .

You are expected to work more and more and more each day, outside your job description for the name of team player! but the actual reason is that they keep cutting hours from all departments.

Avid this company at all cost. it is not the place to be. and everyone who was worth anything has either left, let go or are leaving now.
Pros
hard working, kind front line staff in clubs
Cons
awful pay, no respect, no recognition, non existent learning and development for 90% of departments

varied and fast paced, good work place culture, the hardest part of the job is the long days, the most enjoyable part of the job is the rewards, the pay and the team.

Junior Activities Supervisor (Former Employee) –  Brighton17 May 2019
Absolutely awful place to work. I wouldn’t recommended it to anyone, terrible junior activities manager and rude colleges. The manager has no idea what she’s doing or how to run a team, I’ve got no clue how she’s still working there.
Pros

Cons
Long hours, poor pay, poor management, bad colleges

Nice friendly staff, awful management
Front of House Staff (Former Employee) –  Sheffield, South Yorkshire30 April 2019
Management is awful and are not bothered about you personally. I worked here in 2017 but I am aware the managers are the same ones. Hours are long and it is impossible to get a set shift pattern or book days off (awful communication). ALWAYS underpaid, every month. Intimidating gym, if you have been there a long time staff and customers like you - hard being a newbie.
Pros
Gym Membership
Cons
Underpaid constantly, poor management
