Fun but unorganised due to bad management
Meeting and Events Assistant Manager (Former Employee) –  London, Greater London1 January 2020
Always busy with different kinds of events but management is very poor and events are unstaffed to save money which results in staff being over worked and under paid

Worst Place you could ever work
Bar and Waiting Staff (Former Employee) –  Maidstone, Kent16 December 2019
A typical day at the Village Hotel on bar would be getting tossed all around the hotel, being worked tirelessly while your managers have a nice little chat, and then finishing your shift at 2-3am, if you are lucky. You may even receive a 30 minute break with your 10 hour shift, if you are lucky.

Working for the Village Hotel has been my worst job experience, and I have worked in some awful places (at least they had some pro's). You are severely underpaid for what you are doing, no training and no real respect for their appearance, apparently you can't do anything but sit in an office when you are a manager or more. Extremely terrible hours, the dayshifts and morning shifts are never evenly spread out so you will go months with 6pm-3am shifts, while your manager goes home at 10pm.

There is no respect for any of the workers, you are just worked and then chucked away. No gains from this job, you will not progress, you will not get any bonuses that they promise and you won't be treated like a human.

This is all for a company who had a massive turn over and has apparently improved.

Do not work here unless you want to give everything you have to them, and be walked all over. Find a company which actually respects you and will treat you a bit better.

Events Assistant (Former Employee) –  Edinburgh21 November 2019
They really work you hard but you always have a lot of staff to help you out. Sometimes unclear what your responsibilities are and what you’ll be doing from one shift to the next.

Waitress - Part Time (Current Employee) –  Hyde, Greater Manchester9 November 2019
The Village feels like family the staff look after each other and the customers. Even in stressful time you can guarantee that management will ensure you’re okay.

Bartender (Former Employee) –  Liverpool, Merseyside1 November 2019
Would not recommend this place to anyone until it changes . My manager was great. The general manager was awful the way he spoke to you was not acceptable. Quite a few excellent skilled staff have left in all departments. Quick turnaround of excellent staff. It was a playground with no reason to smile, the locals and staff I worked with was the best part of the job

Was only ever going to be temporary...
Bar Staff (Former Employee) –  Liverpool fallows way1 October 2019
Only worked with this company over Christmas and new year... positivley the worst company to work for. Zero hours contracts, poorly trained staff and extremely unsociable working hours (start work at 6pm, sometimes working until 3am having to work a residents bar). Mamagement are poor... newly recruited bar manager who looks 15, very little experience. General manager very snobby and up herself, she thinks it's all about her and if you disagree with her you get sanctioned. If i was allowed to name and shame I would. Staff are a mixed bag, restaurant and hotel team seem to be very knowledgeable, mixed aged group. Bar team were OK... apart from back stabbing little girls who are 18 to 21 years old who think they know it all, but know nothing! Kitchen staff are decent, like a good laugh. I think the only decent parts of working for this company are the regulars who make working here bearable.

Uses WhatsApp as a communication platform, but messages not always work related. IMO it’s very unprofessional.
No progression
Favouritism
You’re left to your own devices as a new member of staff.
So called ‘TEAM LEADERS’ can be very snappy, and disrespectful when being asked a simple question about the job.
A few nice members of staff.
You work closely with kitchen staff and those can be very hard to approach.
Hours given are limited.
No appreciation

Supervisor/Team Leader (Former Employee) –  Bristol26 July 2019
Very bad management all bitchiness and to get anything you want you need to be best friends with or you need to lick there bums. One of the worst jobs I’ve ever had if you want a miserable life then the job is for you. The company sees you as a number if they can invest millions of pounds into the hotel then they should invest on how they value there staff and they wonder why people leave.

Poor Management Worse Service
Member (Former Employee) –  Whiston, Merseyside18 July 2019
The biggest joke about this place isn't the 0 hours contracts, the unsocial hours, the minimum wage or being worked like a dog, or even the 'staff appreciation week' where a couple bags of sweets are supposed to make up for being treated like a slave for the other 358 days of the year.
Its that every staff member will tell you how bad their employer is and how much they hate having to smile to people when providing them with sub-standard services
Pros
Free gym access and staff discounts
Cons
The gym is filthy and the food is garbage

Not a good company to work for
Head of Department (Former Employee) –  Edinburgh, City of Edinburgh25 June 2019
No staff appreciation, no attempt to improve staff retention
Lack of support, they tell you what they expect, but not how and when you should find time for it.
Benefits don't suit everyone, free gym ,no staff food. Everyone eats, some go to gym.
Everything is about £££, way before customer experience, staff morale and ethical values.
Head office dictates everything, and the individual hotels have to suck it up, no matter what.
Pros
Free parking and gym, if you want to go to the gym and have a car
Cons
Long hours, no staff appreciation, cheap products (food, building, furniture etc), constant overbooking...

Not fun place to work at all
Room Attendant (Former Employee) –  Aberdeen, Aberdeen City29 May 2019
If you are looking an housekeeper job then this isn't the right place for you. You need to do +25 rooms within 10-18 minutes per room and size of the room doesn't matter. There is no "team play" in Aberdeen's Village. The team is far from okay since everyone is from different countries and team leader wont do the proper work, and by saying proper work I mean team work because there is no team work ar all. Training provided by two different people, one was brilliant and the other one didn't even show/explain how and what to do. Management doesn't follow the contract rules. You also got a lot of this kind of responses from team leaders: "if u need a work u will work +30 rooms within 7 hours no matter what". Employees won't get meals, strange because every other Hotel provides meals for their employees. This was my third Housekeeper job and I can say the other two's was by far way better in all aspects.
Pros
Free gym, starbucks discount.
Cons
A lot of rooms to clean within few minutes per room. Few egoists in the team. No team, no help when you need it. Bad team leaders, wont do proper TEAM work. No meals. Bad training.

Fitness coach (Former Employee) –  Chester, Cheshire24 May 2019
Had an interview for a job was told I would be contacted the following Thursday as there was still other people to interview. Obviously got no call and guess what the job was readvertised on the Friday. Treat people like rubbish due to poor manners then expect a truthfull negative review.
