Replace the VC with someone who is prepared to tackle head on bullying managers ,not one who is prepared to let bullying managers run out of control. If he takes advice from HR Directors,Directors of Estates,or University Registrars (retired army majors) has it never crossed his mind that when they tell him everything is OK that they just might be telling him a pack of lies? Only a fool would take what they say at face value and treat their word as gospel. Yet he treats the ordinary workers with such contempt that he won't even agree to meet them face to face to find a resolution What's he afraid of ? surely any head of a large uni would want to hear straight from the horses mouth what's going on even more so when evidence can be produced which would satisfy a Judge & Jury in a Crown Court on the burden of evidence threshold test. All three directors mentioned have left under a cloud .

Just either be related to the manager or be a creep then the interview will be rigged and you will get the job you can be the worst interview candidate ever completely useless and thick yet you will still get the job ,what is of great concern is that HR will sit on the interview panel and allow this travesty to take place.
The role of HR is similar to a referee in a football match to ensure fair play and that the rules are followed in a fair manner sadly in this place HR only ensures that managers get what they want they can see interviews are rigged yet do not have the backbone to put a stop to this abuse of power.

There is no real future that is why redundancies are in the pipeline ,what planet is the previous writer living on you might change your view when you are subjected to the terrible treatment others have had to endure. Don't get me wrong a lot of decent people work at the uni ,but on the other side of the coin some vile people also the bad thing about them is that they are in positions of authority which allows them to abuse this power.

By managers making untrue statements purported to come from higher ranking people . A manager states in answer to a question regarding short staffing issues "HR have put a freeze on the recruitment of new staff" A worker takes up the matter directly with HR who state no such job freeze is in force. No action is taken against the manager . A lot of things are going on behind closed doors that could have a huge impact on peoples jobs yet staff are never consulted or kept up to date until things are done & dusted not a great way to inspire trust in your staff is it ? even if bad news is in the pipeline staff should have a right to know ,at least then they can make future plans .
