Most job satisfaction comes from posts working closely with academics and students. So my advice is to ask lots of questions about individual posts as such contact varies significantly.

Student Ambassador (Current Employee) –  Manchester21 May 2018
The workers at the University are excellent however, the University decide to consistently cut jobs, which can make it a hostile environment to work in. As a student ambassador it is fine, however as a permanent full time member of staff at the university it isn't that great, from what I have been told by the people I have worked for.
Pros
flexible work- i.e work 9-6 one day and leave at 3 the day later.

Administrator (Current Employee) –  Manchester, Greater Manchester7 May 2018
Very varied work load due to broad nature of a large research based university in today's higher education sector. Frequent clashes between business side of higher education and the academic,.

Tension in management structure due to large devolved structure. Weak central administration.

Friendly environment on the whole with supportive colleagues.
Pros
Reasonable terms and conditions, varied work
Cons
Size and scale and divergent groups

Can be a pleasant place to work
PA/Administrator (Former Employee) –  Manchester, Greater Manchester5 March 2018
Good employer. It does depend on which department/faculty you are in as regards to flexibility. You can always train on the latest computer packages they are very good in allowing you to go on any courses necessary to your role. But each school/faculty runs itself. Some will make you work to your contract of employment to the letter, some will be more flexible. Could be better paid for the roles people are expected to carry out.Good holiday entitlement.
Pros
Good at helping you to improve your skills
Cons
None I can think of
