Things have changed at unipart rail over the last year as new work has come into the factory and the work force is having great difficulty getting to grips with it.The management are no use whatsoever and the manufacturing director is simply not up to the job but just talks the usual management lingo.Worrying times.

Management seem to have no clue of how to do there jobs. People who slack off seem to be thought of very highly with this company. Apprentices seem to think there above there station and refuse to do the lesser jobs as they think there better than that job. Overall not a good company to work for and these issues need to be sorted out ASAP to improve as a company.

The Unipart Way is a methodology designed to create a standard approach for all employees to follow, it is set around best practise and provides a route-map for all. Conflict is generally avoided and all employees are expected to follow a model of continuous improvement in their work and are rewarded for exceptional performance

Wages for the job are fairly poor compared to the surrounding areas. There is no motivation in the company and management have no intention of there ever being any. Management is lazy. Have a few standard benefit schemes but nothing special. Pension is the minimum they have to meet nothing extra.

Poor work environment, managers don't treat people equally or fairly.

The pay is some of the lowest in the Crewe area, with no chance of advancement. Managers have the ability to work from home but no one else is allowed.

Unipart follow a strange process called the "Unipart way" based around the Japanese Kaizen, but there methods are time consuming and labour intensive and management heavy, which is a contradiction because the whole point of Kaizen is lean management and to reduce wasted effort.

The Crewe site is old fashioned, I think the buildings date back to Victorian times and the company haven't invested any money in the site for a long time and it shows.

Procurement function managed by a micro managing, controlling and unsympathetic individual who seems to love the misery in others. Dreadful place to work. Disorganised and bureaucratic in nature.

nice work environment but the pay isn't worth the hard work. management have there employees that they like more and will give all the opportunity's and if your related to someone in a high up position you get fast tracked.

Work colleagues are fine though.

as a store operator for unipart rail my job was to issue in an out railway tools for engineers. the problem i had with unipart rail was that i was mentored about the company for only a week an a half under presumptions i would be working alongside other people on the same shift, what i was told was not the truth so on last day of mentoring i was told id be working on my own, which i found shocking because what was told to me was different than what was said in the interview. on top of that i had to deal with a team leader who always thought he was right, never took anything i said on board seriously and tried to cause friction between me and another colleague. above all turning up to work a couple of times to find the store shut wasn't amusing as i did late evening. this company is just starting up so they may get better but the beckton branch is one to avoid.
Pros
friendly and helpful contractors

Unipart Rail is a good company to work for if you want to progress up the ladder.
I started as a warehouse operative and within 9 months I had already been promoted to a Team Leader

Unipart Rail are on the whole an excellent company to work for with the main assets being the workforce.

However feel the company is in decline especially as ageing vehicles are removed fleets and the reliance of train operators on Unipart Rail reduces so potentially challenging times ahead.

Recently some of the Management styles have been poor and the overall direction of the business confused.
