Team working friendly ethos
Brook Street DfE Temporary Worker (Former Employee) –  Darlington, Durham27 February 2019
Friendly staff and Public Sector ethos on Census work (2018).

The new Darlington Offices are a collaboration with Darlington Council in the town centre (useful at lunch-times).

The office operates a clean desk policy (strictly enforced).

The staff entrance has an unusual security foyer style entrance that was frustrating for temporary workers that have to sign in to enter and need security staff to open the external door for them.
Pros
Team working
Cons
My work was only temporary in nature

Azure Devops Team Lead (Current Employee) –  Coventry, West Midlands1 January 2019
Fun place nice people, little change for remote working when in an operational role.

As a contingent worker there is very little that I can add to the growth of the organisation

Requirement is to 'just get on with the job.' A mature culture but not too friendly in a personal sense. Good work life balance. Good hard working people.

Cleane (Former Employee) –  London20 March 2018
Poor management and leadership at all levels. Everyone is overworked and unrecognised for their efforts. Senior leadership are incompetent and only seem to be focused on protecting their job security.

POLICY ADVISER, APPRENTICESHIP ASSESSMENTS (Current Employee) –  Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear4 September 2017
Policy is a fast moving continually changing arena with priorities changing to the needs of the Minister and department requirements. Correspondence, public and MP requests for information and press lines are daily occurrences.

Stakeholders are many and varied with a series of telekits and video conferencing all part of the daily routine. There are a number of courses on offer and all staff have to undertake 5 days training annually.

There is emphasis on work/life balance with management keen all should follow.
Pros
work/life balance

Large policy-based corporate
Internal Communications Channel Manager (Former Employee) –  Westminster, Greater London2 May 2017
If you want to work at the heart of government and enjoy politics and working at pace in a busy press office then it can be interesting. Policy is intangible, with decisions that are often short term and reactive, which can be frustrating. Although there is a culture of long hours, particularly at higher grades, you can achieve a good work life balance.

Working with bureaucrats who are cautious and lack creativity can also have its challenges, but overall a good place to work.
Pros
Large scale employer, flexible working.
Cons
Policy work intangible, bureaucratic.
