The National Archives is the official archive of the UK government and for England and Wales. We are the guardians of some of the most iconic national documents, dating back over 1,000 years.

WHAT WE DO:


We collect and secure the future of the

government record, from Shakespeare’s will to tweets from Downing Street, to preserve it for generations
 – more... to come, making it as accessible and available as possible. We serve millions of customers every year, both in person at Kew and online, making us one of the largest and most successful archives in the world.

WHAT WE HOLD:


Our collection is one of the largest in the world, containing over 11 million historical government and public records. From Domesday Book to modern government papers and digital files, our collection includes paper and parchment, digital records and websites, photographs, posters, maps, drawings and paintings.


Situated in beautiful grounds in Kew, West London, The National Archives has good transport links and free on-site parking.


The National Archives is part of the civil service and offers the many advantages of civil service employment, such as opportunities for flexible working and generous annual leave.

Great atmosphere, nice colleagues, excellent facilities, including free museum and parking. Wellbeing is good and we hold an annual wellbeing day for staff every spring. Work areas are clean and clear of clutter and there are kitchens on every floor to make tea and lunch etc. As a relatively new manager, I feel things could be improved such as more - more...
