Awful company
Customer Service Assistant (Former Employee) –  East Sussex19 May 2019
The worst company I’ve worked for. It is a case of if your face fits then you’ll go far and do well, but if someone in management takes a dislike to you then your days are numbered. There was always inappropriate relations between managers and customer assistants. Lots of lazy managers delegating all work to other staff members who weren’t getting the pay or recognition. Staff morale was awful, so many unhappy people. Very little recognition for a company that supposedly celebrates success...lies. I wouldn’t recommend this as a place to work to anyone!
Pros
Nothing
Cons
Unsociable hours, poor management, no recognition for great work

Would love to be able to work here again each summer after returning from university each year. The members of staff all generally get along and it's quite a comfortable atmosphere to work in.

Great team to work with
Customer Assistant (Former Employee) –  Swindon, Wiltshire19 May 2019
I enjoyed working for Tesco and found the people there to be very helpful and friendly and great to work with. I learned a great deal about customer service and also about how a large supermarket runs. The management for the most part were there for you if you needed them and try to help if you have a problem. The hardest part of the job is not always being able to do it because of outside factors such as late deliveries and not always having enough people to complete the tasks. The most enjoyable is the people who are very friendly.
Pros
Good team
Cons
early shifts

Sales Assistant (Former Employee) –  Rowlands gill18 May 2019
I have never known a place like this store. The managers are lazy , patronising bullies. You can’t buy what you want and the shop is often untidy. The staff always look unhappy and the managers talk to them like dirt. Worst managers ever.
Pros
Club card points
Cons
Bad managers

You are a machine, not a human.
Customer Assistant/Cashier (Current Employee) –  Weston-super-Mare17 May 2019
Most benefits you got back in the day are gone. Staff room canteen is no longer and since most deli counters are gone there is no hot food around unless you cook it yourself, but in a half hour break that’s pretty much impossible.

Most managers don’t do anything expect hide in an office upstairs, their rude and stuck up.
You do them a favour and be prepared to get screwed over.
I either work 20 days straight, or none at all, there is no in between. The pay is rubbish, now the worst supermarket for wages.

Be prepared for customers to walk all over you, be rude, throw stuff at you, and have constant complaints put in about you for no reason what so ever because the public are nasty.

Do not work for this company if you have any mental health problems, or any disabilities of that matter as no one will care, or help in any way, and if you have some kind of appointment you best cancel it as they will not give you the time off.
You can literally have a mental breakdown due to say, a customer shouting in your face, making you feel useless and basically that you want to die, but that doesn’t matter as you need to man up, swallow your pride, let the customer win and get a massive telling off and get on with your day as Tesco does not care. You are a machine, not a human.
Pros
Yearly bonus, but depending on yearly theft, waste etc.
Cons
Pretty much everything, read above.

CDA, Line Manager , Others (Current Employee) –  Tiverton, Devon17 May 2019
In the time i worked at Tesco there was constant budge cuts and completely inept senior management. This makes it a tough and joyless place to work. it works well for you and old people who want part time jobs but do not think this is a good place to build anything other than a stressful soul destroying career.
Pros

Cons
Budget cuts, poorly managed, stressful environment

Management that do not care for their staff
Personal Shopper (Former Employee) –  Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire17 May 2019
The benefits and pay are good for the work done.
The head office and management staff most of the time do not understand ( or care for ) any feedback given to them from the people working in the actual stores and the work environment is not conducive of collaborative work.
A key problem is the lack of respect for those working in roles below the management staff.

Not the worst place to work.
Stock Controller (Former Employee) –  Lancashire16 May 2019
Good work life balance if you can get yourself on the right shifts. Money is just slightly over the minimum wage, worst pay of all supermarkets. Your forced to have 1.5hr unpaid break on a 9 hr shift so your there 45 hrs a week but only get paid 36.5 (they are getting rid of all full time colleagues so the most hrs you will get is about 25 if your lucky) Discount isn't worth much with most supermarkets being cheaper and there's no direct now. Other than that's it's good. Oh no, management are shocking too

Warehouse Operative/Forklift Driver (Former Employee) –  Lichfield, Staffordshire16 May 2019
If you're using this place as a stopgap between a proper job and or University then get in knuckle down and get out again. Everyone else think really hard about why you have ended up working in a place that works for the minority and no one else. If you can toady your way to the top via obsequious means and your moral compass has been bent into the shape of Tesco's logo then this is the place for you. Skill, knowledge, hard work, decency and morality are assets as useful as a chocolate teapot in Tesco. It's every man for himself in there and my advice is use it for what it is, a low paid intelligence free zone that is to be abused to the fullest before you acquire a job that actually rewards you and develops your skill sets in a traditional career arc rather than promoting the dimwitted sycophantic back scratchers that are prevalent in this soul depleting environment.
Pros
Shift end
Cons
Managers, shifts, colleagues wanted by interpol, rotas, lack of any career.

Multi-skilled Customer Assistant (Former Employee) –  Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire15 May 2019
Customer assistants are overworked and undervalued.
Management are abusive, threatening at times and do not believe in privacy.
Members of fresh would consistently break health regulations by allowing raw meat to be left in unsanitary environments.

Shop Floor Assistant (Former Employee) –  Fort William, Highland15 May 2019
I done a variety of work in Tesco, from shelf stacking to working on the checkouts.

In Tesco I learned how to deal with the public face to face and how to handle money. I also learnt how to take orders and count stock.

Management were always friendly in the main and were keen to praise on a good job done.

The hours were sometimes difficult, especially if you were on a back shift which could be 1pm-10pm. This made my social life suffer at times.

Meeting new people was probably the most enjoyable part of the job.
Pros
