Not the best of places to work for they will have you to well over you legally required overtime, they are never grateful for the work you do for them and they never offer anyone full-time contracts so as they don't have to pay the full holiday entitlement

Managers not allowed to manage
Line Manager (Former Employee) –  Sprowston16 April 2018
not enough resource spent on staff so managers spend all their time grafting rather than managing.
Pay isn't reflective of the hours required to work.

Work with great people but extremely taken for granted
Personal Shopper (Current Employee) –  Seaton13 April 2018
The best part about working at Tesco has been my coworkers. The management is terrible, hours are often cut leaving you with a weekly wage that you cannot live on, however they expect you to maintain your availability and not get another job so they can use you in the event that they do need you.
The workers at the lowest grade (ie personal shoppers) are extremely taken for granted. The actual role is bearable but one in which you're always doing something wrong and are never rewarded for your hard work.
Pros
Coworkers
Cons
Taken for granted

Customer Assistant (Former Employee) –  Reading, Berkshire8 April 2018
Job provides a stable income but is little to none progression for staff in store, management was poor and time table planning was not always accurate, lots of over time available and benefits are good, it’s a good job to have if you are looking for easy work without any input or progression
Pros
Staff benefits
Cons
Poor time table planning

Cafe Assistant (Former Employee) –  Cardigan, Ceredigion8 April 2018
Good enough to shop there every day ...but not good enough to work there. ALDI pay more in wages and yet i thought i would stay loyal (loyal..pfff) to TESCO and work for them. i thought wrong, nothing about being loyal gets you a job.....my advise, have a grade a CV..or make one because they don`t want a loyal customer working there...

I was on the checkouts so it isn't as exciting, it is very repetative and where I was under 18 I would have to ask to sell alcohol which sometimes they took a while to come.

good wage

Tesco Nightshift
Sales Operative (Former Employee) –  Port Glasgow4 April 2018
I loved the community feel in Tesco, however with the nightshift pay decreasing each year, what incentive did nightshift workers really have to do such unsociable hours? Nightshift changes your lifestyle completely. There are plenty of jobs out there for the same pay and you can keep the regular working hours.
