Simon Pearce roberts
I worked for SIG previously known as Sheffield Insulations for 35years
From warehouse person at 17 retiring as a director of SIG roofing after almost 35 years service

This was once a great company

Changes in senior management during 2006 led to its current situation

Weak unqualified senior management and the loss of its core values...

Stressful environment with low staff morale
SIG has been going through some painful changes.

They have lost key staff and have people in positions of responsibility that do not understand the products and services they are responsible for.

They have a presumptive terrible work-life balance with managers regularly working 6am to 8pm.

It is not a positive environment at all.

Rubbish
Silly place to work.
Uneducated work staff.

Would not recommend

Slave labour

If it rains it pours

No heating mice everywhere

Reduced visibility

Favouritism

Worst company ive worked for period
Where do i start. Any place that gets 8 visits by health and safety in 6 months rings alarm bells. Lot of workers didnt speak english. Accidents with nail guns and circular saws constant. Dust in the air with diesel fumes from fork lifts, which is illegal btw. Had to wear my own mask. Manager was a nasty piece of work, but heard he left. Still wouldnt work there even if i was desperate

Company is overall okay to work for
A typical day at work will be of a 9 hour shift with a 1 hour break. The day is really fast paced due to the amount of sales coming through and trying to offer customer same day deliveries when I usual delivery window is 2 days. Management is good but can be hard to get hold off as they're constantly visiting customers
Pros
Good organisation to work for
Cons
Short staffed

I'd go back, for sure.
Good company to work for. Computer software perfect for the business. People are friendly. Can be fast paced/stressful, and fun. Good staff perks. I worked there for over 2 years, at times stressful but enjoyable

Us vs Them
As a yard operative it was fun working within the warehouse and with like minded people.
The main issues were the office staff and "managers" it was a very US vs THEM situation, office staff looked down upon the warehouse team. The whole "one team" thing didn't exist.

Managers didn't care about health and safety violations or building safety. Zero harm policy meant nothing.

Managers would take weeks, sometimes months off, still get paid and came back to work like nothing had happened, was never updated with why they were gone. Flips flops being worn in the warehouse by a certain manager too, disgusting.

I was told when I joined the company that everyone is on the same wage, office and warehouse staff, turns out that was a lie. Ranged wage gaps of about £5k. Ask for a rise and then get told that the company has no money. Closing branches all over the UK. Once 300 stores, now less than 100.

Sinking Ship
As a company SIG is struggling in a very competitive market. Most of the Team members are good to work with as where my Line managers. But and its a big but, the company is being destroyed by Senior Management, Journey Men and Consultants. Quick fix saving without hardly any thought for the consequences long term ( Outsourced the Accounts Dept ), invoices now go unpaid and numerous suppliers put SIG on STOP,as a result the reputation of SIG is in taters. Currently it wouldn't be my first choice of employer if I had to choose. The share price reflects the state of the business as does another Profit warning. Senior management will probably still take a generous bonus as they have no regard for the business, if it does go under their sitting pretty and will move onto another well paid job.
Gutted for my Ex Colleagues still at SIG

Ruthless
Yes folks a ruthless, appallingly run outfit, whose wages are laughable and embarrassing to say the least.
Their only concern is to reach monthly targets and they are to an obsession health and safety mad in their own yards, but once your out on the road it's deliver their goods at any cost.

Whoever put some managers in there respective positions should be dealt with not the idiots that have been put in their.

Stay clear other companies doing the same work pay and treat you better, hope they go into liquidation and do everyone a big favour

Avoid/Shocking company to work for and people singled out for making mistakes
Today at work I learnt that two collegues got denied their annual pay rise because they have both got written warnings and have both had recent disaplinarys, they have had their punishment and now they are being punished financially aswell, what kind of company would do this to two hard working decent men now doing the same job beside me on less money, how low can you get. Im sure they wont be around much longer after this and good staff are hard to come buy these days.
Makes me want to leave aswell, its embarrassing

Bad Managment ethics.
The job is an easy one, drive, deliver, load.Thats all there is to do. Management make the job hard to do with their de-motivation skills in personnel treatment. Needs teamwork skills and less blame for petty issues.
Pros
Good hours
Cons
Management and pay

Stay away
Don't go near this place, they have a terrible culture. They have a blame culture all the way from directors down. They claim that they have a whistleblowing procedure but they do nothing. Good luck for anyone working here.

A market leading company that seems to be struggling to employ the right people
Due to the nature of the role as an LGV driver working in this industry not many drivers stay long. Yes you get awkward deliveries’ You also get some not so awkward deliveries. SIG serve the construction industry so awkward sites and private addresses is part the parcel. You either Love it or hate it.

Absolute shambles of a place
Avoid like the plague transport office have not got a clue no paid overtime but yet they expect you to work it no point asking for ppe as they have you waiting months for it and certain drivers get preferential treatment. Look elsewhere for work
