Easy Work, Difficult People
My second shift was spent mostly standing on a street corner because I had turned up 3 minutes late and this had meant they had filled my position which didn't need to be worked until the doors were open. Which is around an hour or so after your shift start. Some of the employees are the most genuinely nice and caring people you will ever meet. They care personally for their colleagues and customers' wellbeing which is exactly what you want in a colleague. Now with that being said, the large majority of people who work there, simply don't care about the customers in the slightest, and sure this isn't a job requirement but you'd expect people that go for a job that is heavily based around customer service, to have at least a semblance of knowledge regarding customer care and attitude. If you are one who enjoys looking after people and ensuring they have a good night, then you should ideally not expect to be paired with someone who cares an ounce about the job because for most of them it is a means to an end. Which yet again, is perfectly fine, after all with the pay you receive and the lack of benefits entirely, there is no incentive to care remotely about the company and the customers. Because likely, anyone in a position of authority within the company will not care in the slightest about you as a person unless you have a connection to them before entering the job role. Take me for example who was denied a call to my family so that I could get picked up from work after being sent away for being 3 minutes late as I previously mentioned. I had no money and no knowledge of the - more...

good for students
this job is perfect as a second job, but also viable as a full-time job if you are willing to work evenings and weekends regularly. however, work does sometimes slow down due to the nature of the job. also, during times such as COVID, work cannot be guaranteed

Alright job
Great if you like to travel, and some amazing experiences to be had during festival season. You just have to make sure you're fully prepared for an event, as appropriate provisions are slim, transport is limited unless you live in Manchester, and there are periods of low availability for work. This makes it difficult to maintain this job if you are unable to travel long distances, they don't pay for the travel cost so you could spend up to half of your pay from a shift just to be able to get there.

Disgrace of a company - Do not risk working here
Showsec's response to the coronavirus pandemic was to put profits over people as usual. No PPE on supermarket shifts or proper training for the unsafe temporary corona morgue shifts they're trying to blackmail us into doing by manipulating our contracts.

The furlough scheme was of absolutely no cost to them, yet they have left stewards with 0 income for the upcoming months as they are offering no shifts. They have no care for their employees' physical, psychological or financial welfare. They also then have the nerve to post marketing messages on what a successful team effort this has been, when we haven't been able to work or pay our bills since late March.

All complaints have been ignored, questions on staff apps deleted and left with no response from management, people speaking up non anonymously are being fired.

Hopefully their suppliers will learn of this disgusting behavior, some of us have been contacting press and the venues to report it as it appears the only way to get through to them.
Cons
Profit over people, even during a global pandemic

Dont bother
-Abandoned staff during covid 19 leaving people with no form of income and massive amounts of stress.
- Will bypass you for "friends" regardless of the order of shift requests. Leaving you out of work again.

-no onsite training. Turn up get on with it. Vast majority if staff are coat fillers with no customer service skills and no desire to work

Great opportunity and experience
Typical day would be a sold out show 3,000 plus, learned in time how to talk to customers who are under the influence, patience is a key in this industry, management is good communication is good, work place atmosphere is always a good 1 full of happy people, dealing with rowdy and abusive customers is the hardest part, most enjoyable would be seeing people having a good time and leaving safely

No loyalty or equality to casual staff
It was sh_ts and giggles until the Corona virus then Showsec shown their true colours.
(Manchester Arena security staff, you know the ones who help fight against terrorism, and save peoples lives #onemanchester, yes us guys.)

March 2020, approx a thousand Manchester casual staff hung out to dry, only the chosen few Supervisors and Ops managers kept on, they say Casual staff are valued, well it seems not, If Showsec is good at one thing is BULL!!

The casual staff were not offered Furlough 80% pay, Showsec puts ''PROFITS BEFORE PEOPLE'', and they have the cheek to advertise they are investors in people.

Showsec run the company to a bare minimum, if not enough staff turn up, then some staff have to work twice as hard, working two positions.

Note: I am currently working with them... for now either until I get a decent job or they read this and find out who I am.

Welfare towards staff non existent
During the coronavirus pandemic, the government set up a scheme as publicised nationally, whereas 80% of staff wages would be paid, with staff getting furloughed. Showsec, after obviously finding out that there was no money in it for them, decided that they wouldnt be applying for the scheme, so all staff left in limbo with no hours or pay! TOTALLY UNPROFESSIONAL! Theclaim that

My life at Showsec
I think working for Showsec is the perfect accompaniment to your normal working job with a vast array of working opportunities that’s why they deserve their status as the nations number one security company.
Pros
As above plus they have good opportunities to progress in the company.
Cons
SIA pay could be a bit better for lower grade events

Surprisingly slapdash
Considering the industry they’re in I found showsec surprisingly slapdash in their operational style. Not sure I would work for them again, although I do still have the uniform.

Disgrace of the industry
95% of staff are CBA students from local universities and the company will give a badge to anyone. Showsec staff are common laughing stock in the security industry. It's s shame that they have good contracts like the arenas.
Pros
Always paid on time. Some good contracts such as the arenas and premier League stadiums
Cons
When you take holiday pay off pay is very poor, Management are big headed, supervisors are authority heavy despite being a steward less than a year ago

Interesting diverse roles
On line portal where you book on for shifts. You choose when you work. More work available for SIA than stewards. If you book on for a shift you can cancel it up to 5 days prior to shift. After that you need to try and get someone to cover it.

It's intense
It is what it is. For a first job, you can earn some good money, and all the staff are a good laugh. You'll have some undesirable assignments, but the atmosphere in this role is just incredible

Rubbish, not helpfull with staff at all
Very one sided company and very clicky, if your not in with the 'in group' you get very little work and when you do you get the worse positions. Management are like children , if you upset them they refuse to talk to you
Pros
Not far to travel to get to
Cons
Management is appalling, supervisors are just as bad, mostly kids with a badge
