Ok to work for
It was ok to work there although you dont get a lot of support from managers. Had good rapport with other colleagues and customers. Enjoyed the role.

Nice coworkers, awful management!
I liked most of my coworkers and my clients as well even if sometimes they can be difficult! The reason I left is the manager. Very unprofessional and unorganised. Training scheme..non existent. They just ask you to look around.. “self help” .
The pay rate is good though but only if you work on the trade desk if not is not worth it. Is really cold in there. Maybe in a different Selco could have been better. Management is really bad!

Okay place
Okay place. Fairly relaxed and friendly enough team.
New wagons.

Challenging fun negotiating a 26 tonne, rear wheel steer, hiab truck around residential areas.

Up to 3 runs a day. Frustrating waiting around to be reloaded if u like to be constantly busy.

Management are fair.

The only negative is a relatively low wage.

Job Culture
Slave Labour with no understanding of reality by management.
Selco builders warehouse is one of the worst Jobs I ever had. I worked as a supervisor on the shop floor. Goods in and heavy lifts. There were to many managers with no clear understanding of the job. Many would have unrealistic requests and would pick and choose favourites openly. The higher ups would sit in there office all day only coming out to complain about how terrible the staff were. Managers would often be behind the main customer service desk or in the canteen occasionally appearing to find more jobs. The job is very demanding and often leads to injury due to lack of proper training and an over expectation of what can be done. Staff are expexted to work long hours and if requested for overtime you are required to do so or you can expect to be bullied. Management is chosen based on friends and not skill or ability.
Selco has also recently started taking on job center signers who are treated like sub humans by management as they know the signers can not risk anything or loose there benefit all while working for like £120 every 2 weeks.

I would advise all to stay away from this company and its illegal practices
Pros
None
Cons
Long hours. Bullying. Lack of respect . Dangerous requests

Couldn't ask for a better employer
This is my second time with in Selco and in all honesty I could not envisage leaving again. The reason for leaving was simply that I decided that I would like to try my hand elsewhere including construction. After leaving for 18 months and working in both construction and other merchants, it quickly became apparent that there is no other place like Selco. I am always challenged with in my role and in my opinion this is rewarded with genuine job satisfaction. The pay is fair, the staff are great and our new CEO has brought a new lease of life to the company, and as such, makes for exciting times ahead.

Like in every aspect of life, you will get out of it what you put in to it.

Great Company
The job is relatively easy. You build good relationships with customers which benefits yourself and the company, with bonuses going to yourself when the store hits the targets monthly.

Management, from my experience, are very relaxed and happy to help you with any issues you have. Whether its personal or work related.

Enjoyable
An energetic environment to work in, always busy, provided you work and put effort in you are rewarded. If you just bumble along but expect advancement over someone who has put in the effort they clearly see who has put in the effort and reward justly. A sales focused environment, but also a heavy interest in customer interaction and forever looking for ways to improve on service.
Pros
staff discounting benefits with high street shops etc
Cons
hours can be unsociable, but rota's arent horrendous
