Very hard work.
Order Picker (Former Employee) –  Kingsbury, Greater London3 February 2018
Everyday was like fight with time and management. Always not enough staff on all positions so management use you to do everything.
Very low salary for this kind job.
Usually people stay in Selco 4-6months and move to different company which offer 1.5/2£ per hour more.
Is good start in selco because after months they sent you on forklift training which is free but you will never see licence.
Pros
Forklift training, salary always on time
Cons
Management, mess, unstaff

Focused on expansion and sales figure. Competition with own stores.
Duty Manager (Current Employee) –  London, Greater London2 February 2018
The company is solely focused on expansion and sales figures.

They make an attempt to provide a nice working environment, but this is often disregarded due to stress of not achieving unrealistic targets and poor management.

The attempt never feels genuine.

Management is weak, they tended to buckle under the stress and nature of the business.

due to the high influx of new managers due to expansion, their inexperience and unfamiliarity to the business and industry frequently causes friction and chaos.

If you are friends with the right people, then you’re safe no matter how poor you are, unless you mess up really bad and risk your friend with the influence’s job.
Pros
Secure if you are seen as valuable in your role
Cons
Poor inexperienced management. Unrealistic goals. Stressful

Don't work for them. Management is not good
Sales Assistant/driver (Former Employee) –  Beckton, Greater London6 December 2017
I used to work for a store for about a year. It wasn't the best. I worked really hard yet no progression. The managers were in your face about personal dilemmas. Always stopping you don't let you get on with any tasks.

They expect so much from you. They don't pay you right, managers are not what you expect and no professionalism.
Pros
Overtime when needed not asked
Cons
Bad management. Long hours. Bad pay. Bad place to work

Can be a good place to work
hgv hiab driver (Former Employee) –  Bradford25 November 2017
Great place to work potentially, took on as a hiab driver spent most of my time working from a van. Will be expected to lift 2man lifts on your own, will send you out with damaged good hoping customer will accept. Management has no idea about logistics and vehicle rules. They will take advantage of new starters and put pressure on to do unothadox things and will make you feel obliged, they will talk down to you like a child if you refuse. Expect you to answer a phone whilst driving and expect you to crane off where you shouldn't. Of course they tell you it's to your discretion, but if you don't the call you for it. Selco could be a fantastic work place if they had different management rather than the circus show they have there at the moment.
Pros
Nice uniform. Ok money
Cons
All of above

Enjoyable place to work but long term staff can be very "clicky"
HEAVYSIDE MANAGER (Former Employee) –  Cardiff28 August 2017
On the go from the time the doors were open, from picking customer orders to loading vehicles.
Stock ordering and regular stock checks .
Hardest part of the jod was the constant manual lifting although for the larger quantities forklifts are used.
Recycling warped timber which was cut down to usable lengths for discounted sale.
Warehouse housekeeping and Health and safety were, as it should be, high on the agenda.
Pros
Good working environment and facilities
Cons
A lot of heavy Manual lifting at times

At this work place I have learnt a lot of things, such as new skills, it helped me to come out my shell even more and has helped me develop myself as a person. Also it was very convenient for me that they agreed and allowed me to work during weekend as I was a full time student during the week.
Pros
Very nice and friendly staff members, also the customers
Cons
Only working weekends as it it hard to get to do oveertime
