Everyone is supposed to muck in and do the job but there is so much paperwork for the managers they tend to only help when absolutely necessary. Quite often management will outnumber the service assistants which can make it difficult to get stuff done.
20% at Screwfix and B&Q. There are very strict guidelines about the fact that only you can use it. For family and friends you are supposed to 'gift' items (although how this is enforceable is beyond me).

If my contract is 24 hours. Would they give me 3 days 8 hours or spread the 24 hours in 5 days
Store dependant- you will hear 'needs of the company' a lot with regards to your rota's. Basically this means "you will work when we tell you to". Despite the claim they can be very inflexible at times.
What are the working hours/shift patterns for part time Service Assistants on a 12 hour week?
Either 2 6 hour shifts or 3 4 hour shifts, the shift pattens are over 7 days per week between the hours of 7am till 9pm depending on store opening times
Does Screwfix require pre-employment background checks? What kind of background check does Screwfix do and how long does it take to complete?
No CRB or Dbs required as that would cost money and full history of life going back 10 years. References were not checked for any of my colleagues they take your word it.
You have to dress as yogi bear every friday for the comical satisfaction of the customers who hopefully spend a bit more money than useual
Can the employees have their own and permanent rota or can start 9Am and finish at 9pm?
Highly unlikely. You work within your store opening times as needed by the company. Rota's are subject to endless, last minute changes and you are expected to keep on top of your own working hours. You will rarely be asked if changes work with your life outside of work, you ar ejust expected to do them.
