  • *Residents at Glenabbey Manor take trip to local cinema for ‘Singing in The Rain’ showing.* Residents at Glenabbey Manor in County Antrim had a lovely day out visiting the local cinema. Families of the residents and volunteers helped make the day a success, and everyone loved it. Staff at the home said “Residents were singing along and it was a great trip down memory lane for them.” Glenabbey Manor would like to thank Miichael McAdams, whose mother is a resident at the home, for giving the residents the cinema and treats for free of charge.

  • *Residents at Oak Tree Manor were treated to a line dance performance from local group, True Rebels.* Residents at Oak Tree Manor in Dunmurry, Belfast, were treated to a line dance performance from local group, True Rebels, and even joined in!

When the group were invited to perform by the homes staff, they were more than happy to come along and show off their skills. The group of ten members donned hats, boots and their cowboy attire and put on a brilliant show. Staff at the home said “The residents had a great time seeing them perform, and we had one 91 year old resident who even joined in!” Oak Tree Manor is a beautiful, modern, purpose built care home in Dunmurry, Lisburn.   • *Residents at Windle Court care home in Chelmsford, Essex, have been keeping busy with a carvery day out and pets day.* Residents at Windle Court have been keeping busy over December. Staff took residents on a day out to their local carvery restaurant, and Barny, a fellow resident, was able to celebrate his 102nd birthday with his friends and family. Staff said “It was a great day had by all.” The home were also visited by local petting zoo company J&C’s Party Pets and were able to interact with a whole host of animals. Residents got up close with rabbits, guinea pigs, bearded dragons, tortoises, snakes, birds and more! Elderly people, especially those living with dementia, can benefit in an increasing number of ways from a pet or other animal’s therapeutic traits. Physical health, emotional well-being and social involvement are among the many ways seniors with memory impairments benefit from pets and animal therapy.

Residents sung along with the children to Christmas carols and had a lovely time.
