Good place to work
I still work for Rochdale Council.
The council is quite progressive and has implemented new systems to address the current challenges that are faced by local government.

Corporate culture. Poor morale
20 years working there, and working well. There is no morale, no encouragement from management. Very corporate. Outdated way of treating staff.

fun place to work
the hardest part was the travelling from one end of town to the other end in the time that you are suppose to be there in
sometimes the work would be given to the coaches that were on contract work,so then the casuals would be given the left over hours

Avoid
Don't work here. Bosses are useless and you have alot of grasses that work here. They have run down useless equipment and cut corners on safety but if you do all the checks they say you aren't quick enough.

the worst company/organisation I have ever worked for
I have nothing good to say about working for Rochdale council. Staff are seen as replaceable statistics, there is zero value felt for them from management-on all levels. Their so called work life balance scheme is very one sided-always in their favour, it's all take and no give. Job roles and descriptions are frequently changed-again always in their favour to repeatedly get more work load from staff for the same pay or LESS. When job roles/descriptions are changed, staff are expected to re-interview for the position they are already in, this can happen many times-really stressful. Jobs are not secure, contracts are mostly temporary, even if you are lucky enough to get a permanent one, it doesn't feel secure as there is always an undercurrent of worry if the next cuts will affect your department/role. Job roles are changed to be made unbearable and unmanageable to force staff to leave so they don't have to pay out on redundancy pay. They dictate to you how you should act and what you should wear outside of the workplace-they act like they own you. Even after the cuts they still waste far too much money on useless "team building/information" days, training, computer software and programs, the list goes on. There is a high level of sickness leave across the board, but rather than look at themselves and see that they are responsible, they don't care and instead send emails to say sickness rates are too high and you are spoken to if ill too often in so many months. The annual leave entitlement is unfair and benefits management, the higher your pay grade the more annual leave you - more...

Enjoyable role
• Working in various settings including residential, outreach and day centres, providing care and support for people with learning disabilities.
• Whilst working in the Harehill Centre I assisted with preparing and cooking a range of meals and snacks for the residents.

• This facility (café) was open to the general public also. I was therefore responsible for serving the customers, cash handling, dealing with stock and setting up the tables/clearing away.

Fun place to work
There was a lot of elements to a working day but I made some great, fun caring colleagues who was very supportive and knowledgeable in their field.
I was lucky to go into some wonderful schools across the borough of Rochdale and I met some wonderful children, young people and their families.

I was able to gain multi-disciplinary knowledge and skills and learnt a lot.
Pros
great colleagues
Cons
No progression

I was employed during austerity measures however direct line management provided clear communication and workforce culture was maintained.
Promotion opportunities were limited, but development and training opportunities were readily available.
Pros
Supportive management

Lack of progression and development opportunities

productive and fun
Absolutely loved my time volunteering as a community champion under Rochdale council , the staff are all friendly, encouraging and supportive in every way possible. The opportunity to help make a difference to the wider community is amazing and I felt a truly valued member of the team. Amazing people, amazing opportunities. Just wish this could have been a profession not just a voluntary position as I could have happily been apart of this team forever!!!
Pros
excellent training, excellent people
Cons
there are none
