Can be enjoyable
Barista at Costa Coffee (Former Employee) –  Norton Canes, Staffordshire1 March 2019
Good workplace. Can be fun when working with team players. Friendly staff and approachable and encouraging management. Easy customers if you demonstrate some effort. Unfortunately low wages together with complete lack of enthusiasm and teamwork of some team members can create a lot of frustration.
Pros
Friendly work environment.
Cons
Low wages.

Great people to work with, I enjoyed my time at roadchef didn't really want to leave but only a 24 hour contract needed more hours in the winter, hours are there in the summer loved the business of it all. Management were good,

Place is a dump
Cafe Assistant (Former Employee) –  Northampton, Northamptonshire7 January 2019
Worked here briefly and an absolute dump! You work your best and get no thanks, just the supervisor snapping at you cause she can't do her job properly, so certain workers get the brunt of it! Left on your own when the queue is coming out the door!
Also a good clean round the back wouldn't go a miss especially when food is involved
Pros
Free lunches
Cons
Place is dirty behind closed doors

Awful work place
Housekeeping (Former Employee) –  Norton Canes, Staffordshire6 November 2018
My advice don't do it. Staff treated poorly. And if you raise a concern they cut your hours. Only 24 hour contract yet expected to do 40 hours when busy but your shift will be cut if quiet. The general manager is not nice either her deputy. Glad to get out of there.
Minimum wage worked hard. Standards are low as is moral
Pros
Lunch allowance
Cons
Poor management

Absolute rubbish place
Cleaner (part-time) (Former Employee) –  Axbridge, Somerset25 August 2018
Employees are nice. Managers speak to you like utter rubbish talks down to you.
Expects you to run around stick brush at backside and clean up at same time especially when a "visitor" is calling.
Not enough staff on when it's busy. Also having to wait for food to cool and waste yr break waiting half an hr is all u get
Pros
Free lunch
Cons
Long hrs rubbiah pay

Horrible place to work
Catering Assistant (Former Employee) –  Norton Canes, Staffordshire4 May 2018
Management talk to you terribly, expect 2 people to do the work of 3.dont replace staff when they leave.if they looked after and appreciated the staff they've got, then they wouldn't leave.the whole team at n.canes signed a letter of complaints to the head office about there manager and the way she treats and speaks to her staff.every word of it was true.at this point in time the FFC cafe is not a nice place to work.cannot speak about the other departments there but the staff at the others do seem to be happier.
Pros
Only aloud certain things on the free lunches.
Cons
Lunches and contracts., they cut hours drastically in the winter and expect you to do twice as much in the summer.

Sales Assistant (Former Employee) –  Elton, Cheshire20 April 2018
what can i say about roadchef, management are useless and leave all the responsibilitys they should have to lower members of staff without paying them for the extra responsibility and promising promotions down the line for the hard work for it never to come, place when i worked there was massively understaffed adding pressure on the few staff there where meaning that extra hours had to be work so you would normally work 50+ hour weeks, only to make it to payday to find they haven't paid your for the overtime and would then reuse to.
Pros
free lunches
Cons
low pay, usless managent, dredful work/life balance, stressful, constantly underpaid

Alright if you don't want a life
Team Member (Former Employee) –  Worcester, Worcestershire11 April 2018
Starts with an unpaid trial shift then 2days paid induction where most of what is told to u is wrong, as u find out if u start the job.
Culture in the place is awful. Supervisors bully staff into doing things and speak to others in their own languages so that you cannot understand what they are saying.
When u do try to speak with a supervisor who u think may listen u get told to keep quiet or they will have u out.
New staff expected just to do the job without training. Most of the managers tasks are given to the Supervisors and the manager is never in the unit and unable to be found when needed.
Full time contract is 24hrs but u will be expected to work 40+ hrs yet your holidays are paid pro-rata so u only get around 15days holiday paid a year.
You are expected to work every weekend one or both days, and your days off are spread out and not given together when u do get any.
Nobody seems happy anywhere across the site and everybody moans all the time, bringing everyone else down if they can go down any further that is.
And it's one of those jobs that makes you feel sick at the thought of having to go in, and that's a horrible feeling.
Pros
Free meals, transport in and out
Cons
Poor wage, very long hours, bullying supervisors and managers who don't care/act

Sales Assistant (Current Employee) –  Sandbach, Cheshire3 April 2018
Units staff are great. Site manager spends his time with a coffee in one hand and his mobile in the other barely speaks to staff. I enjoy the job but we're all on reduced hours as it's a quiet time of year. We will be expected to work long extra hours in the heat of the summer. Very quick to critise very poor appreciation. Duty managers are lazy and always missing. We do get a free meal at the moment but with the rise in NMW we're all expecting it to be stopped.

Terrible place to work.
Manager (Former Employee) –  Sandbach, Cheshire20 February 2018
A culture of intimidation and bullying by senior management.
Long unsociable hours for minimum wage.
Site director was a horrible person who gossips about other staff behind their back. Family members were employed and allowed to get away with things other staff would have been sacked for.
General staff were friendly but most complained about working conditions.
Stay away

Free lunch
Cons
Longs unsociable hours for low wage.

it is a good company to work for in terms of practicality and progression. This is a company for people who want a career in retail and hospitality. It is also committed to food standards and customer service.
