As a first job, this was a perfect place to start, I got to learn all aspects of the job from how to design a garment to making up prototypes and getting them made in the factory. Helped to design lingerie for customers such as Amazon and M&S, keeping in mind the costing of a finished product. Sportswear is also a growing trend, another role is to help design and understand new products and function for Lululemon to improve their product, for example more breathable fabrics and cups, how to incorporate bonding. Another part is communicating with overseas factories and suppliers to organise fabric sampling. Further developed skills in illustrator and Photoshop to provide customers with a digital representation of a finished product.
Reply to emails first thing in the morning usually from the factory or overseas fabric suppliers. Update the sample machine room plan for the day ahead so the sample machinists know what to work on first. Have update meetings with the team to discuss developments and progress and to plan the next weeks objectives. Research the latest trends. Produce patterns. Source and order fabrics for new or current projects.
