The job role in its entirety was perfect, however the company itself and management ruin my experience there. As my job title increased and I took on more responsibilities my pay did not increase accordingly. I felt victim of negative labelling and targeting from my manager based on little reasoning. When confronting my manager about my pay he did not act professionally nor respond in the correct way.
Sales Assistant (Former Employee) – Wigan, Greater Manchester – 11 January 2019
Poundstretcher was a very youthful and fun place to work but, the hours and benefits wasn’t that great. How web the hours wasn’t enough and I didn’t experience much pay benefits, I would say it’s a great company for a teenager who wants to start off for some money.
Sales Assistant (Former Employee) – Glasgow – 4 January 2019
I worked there for over 3 years and as easy as it is too progress through the company it is not worth it the company and higher managment try get as much out of the staff for as little as possible managment are asked too work extra hours without bejng payed for it while also taking alot of grief over thinga that simply arent there fault such as extra pallets of stock being sent in without warning and the staff are expected to drop everything and make there way into work
Retail Sales Assistant (Former Employee) – Newcastle upon Tyne – 29 December 2018
Working for poundstretcher mainly in Kingston park if you get along with the manager and other staff they get along with you will keep your job without a worry, Some are that lazy they sit at the back of the store and do nothing, They look the other way when people are stealing they have no security and there was always complaintsade about the staff. Sometimes they ask you to work shift and don't pay you for them.
Sales Assistant (Former Employee) – Droylesden, Greater Manchester – 29 December 2018
typical duties are working on the tills serving costumers. working the delivery/racking onto shop floor. Price checking/ reducing. Re merchandising. Management Are So kind Offered Overtime never worked my contracted hours always about 20/25 hours a week. Hardest part of the job was some of the customers are rude towards you.
Trainee Manager (Former Employee) – Peterborough – 28 December 2018
The company isn’t that good at all it’s a disorganised company to work for and the people higher up don’t have a clue what they are doing either. I have had no support when I was made trainee manager when store managers have been sacked for ridiculous reasons through area managers being left to run a store with 3 or less people, low budget when running a high theft store which is ridiculous how they expect that I really don’t know not even taking any consideration of the store it self with the theft and for anyone’s safety either.
security was a main issue for the store as they don’t have a permanent security guard which isn’t safe for the staff who work in the shop yet alone numerous staff members also part of management who get abuse and physically attack by the customers leaving staff members and part of management at risk and also unsafe for their own safety.
Managers don’t last at all either they sack them for unfair dismissal or just sack them for the sake of it no permanent manager ever been there to run the store always left for the trainees to run the store whilst being paid on a trainee managers wage which is awful not to mention the contracted hours (40 hours a week) by being told apparently isn’t good enough and should be doing at least (80 hours a week )
No training as got rid of the store manager so I had to learn off my own back whilst run a store with only 2-3 staff members in the evening and day time staff wasn’t that great either due to the low budget.
No support from no one in the company Area managers never pick up their phones when youmore... need them the most or if your having some problems only if they want you to call someone up
They don’t call you back even though when you try and call them several times and leave them voice mails...joke
This company refuses to pay people properly when they are owed money from previous months,Don’t get paid properly general staff assistant are always complaining about their wages are wrong and still owed more then what they are expecting ,when it comes to pay day having to chase money after each month which you work for the company is a complete joke I have never known a company like this in my life.less
Can’t even think of one thing... company is a joke.
Working ridiculous hours when only contracted to 40 hours a week, don’t get paid properly
Cashier Assistant (Former Employee) – Oldbury, West Midlands – 6 December 2018

Sales Assistant (Former Employee) – Birmingham – 24 November 2018
Only worked here a week so i cant really tell you much normal retail shop first experience in retail management are good workplace culture quite busy hardest part is stacking shelf enjoyable part working with people
Store Manager (Former Employee) – South East – 26 October 2018
This company will only pay staff basic 4 contracted hours for holidays unless they write in to HR and request to be paid their 12 week average which they are entitled to (see acas) stores where this has been applied have been asked to keep it quiet so rest of the stores dont request it.
worked for the company for a number of years, awful basic salary asked to work over contracted hours for no top up (despite falling below minimum wage).
