Waitress and Kitchen Assistant (Former Employee) – Brighton, East Sussex – 6 June 2017
poorly managed, workers treated unfairly. long hours and rubbish pay. Expected a lot from you but not a good work environment. A lot of gossiping. Managers did not answer or resolve any problems
Waitress (Current Employee) – Brighton, East Sussex – 15 May 2017
Typical waitressing work , but don't get many breaks , sometimes dont even get one in a double shift... horrible management treat you like nothing... i feel threatened and harrassed in this company. horrible place to work ,hopefully will soon leave... no social life either.. horrible long hours .
Waiter (Former Employee) – Brighton – 24 January 2017
The waiting staff and kitchen staff were fantastic and contributed to a fun working environment where I felt part of a team. However, the management was poor and often laughable. The company is run in such a way that the managers are often asked too much of themselves and end up taking it out on lower members of staff or just leaving their jobs. I do not know of a manager or assistant who has been at pizza express for more than 5 years, they struggle to hold on to staff because the conditions are poor and the money is terrible.
Pros
Free lunch and dinner, discounts, flexible hours
Cons
Poor management, almost no holiday, last minute shift switching
This was a great place to work for me, i worked as a kitchen porter which meant i rarely had to deal with customers and could get on and keep my head down working which i like. Work is fast paced yet enjoyable and the work culture is extremely relaxed. One major pro was regular cigarette breaks allowed because of the amount of smokers in catering and free food ever 4 hours and first picks on mistakes as well as staff discount in other stores.
Pros
free food, great relaxed yet faced paced atmosphere
Manager Assistant (Current Employee) – Brighton, ENG – 16 September 2015
As a manager you are asked to work 45 hours per week as stated in contract - but you never actually work that amount, on average you work between 55 - 65 hours and are expected to work back to back shifts. leaving at 2am and returning at 7am the next morning. With no thanks or any real bonus.
