Deputy Manager (Former Employee) – various – 3 June 2018
Probably one of the better retail positions. However the shift patterns are erratic and leave very little time for any sort of social/personal life. it is expected that you work beyond your contract, especially if you are on a salary, and you will rarely be given the time back..
reasonable pay and benefits. Good training program. Job variation
long hours. Erratic shift patterns. Zero work life balance
job getting worse due to share holder exspectations and the current area manager has only his own self interest at heart. Its do what I say not what I do but if you kick up to much of a fuss or if you cry then he will let you do what you want..
Deputy Manager (Former Employee) – Crawley – 17 October 2016
Fun to work at pets at home although you have to be ready to work hard and long hours. Responsibility for taking care of animals is at the forefront of everything they do and that can be really rewarding. The management in store are great but upper management is harsh and sometimes unfair, there are a few who understand what it is like in store but those that don't are unrealistic in their expectations.
Deputy Manager (Current Employee) – Selby – 29 November 2014
I have worked for Pets At Home for the last 8 years working in a variety of stores. Although I have been in some challenging situations the company has been extremely supportive to me, meaning that I have developed and progressed when I am ready. There are no 2 days that are the same and with the difficult customers there are also extremely rewarding customers.
Deputy Manager (Current Employee) – surrey – 24 June 2014
Retail business that put the pets first. Funding is spent in training the colleagues to a high level in all aspects of animal welfare and the selling of pets to the public. Many people will be very surprised the amount of work that is actually done. It is definitely not just a pet shop.
Deputy Manager (Current Employee) – Trafford, ENG – 11 August 2013
This is a very challenging environment geared to provide world class customer service. It has excellent training programs and opportunities for advancement. A typical day at work involves serving customers and doing day to day management jobs, ranging from cash reconciliation to stock integrity and ordering. I have learned many skills whilst working here, from time management and people skills to scheduling and payroll. Every day presents a new challenge as no day is like another and there is always something new to tackle.
Deputy Manager (Current Employee) – Oxford – 17 March 2013
Pets at Home is a superb place to work and shop. The company core values are strong and encourage colleagues to embrace them each working day, Pets before profit being number one. Each day managers ensure colleagues are kept up to date with the stores performance through daily communication, verbal and the use of notice/white boards. Key KPI's; Sales, Net Promoter Scores, along with daily tasks are communicated in order to keep focus, structure and productivity flowing in store. The management teams are friendly, approachable and engaging. The team is amazing, full of exceptionally friendly and passionate individuals. The hardest part of the job can be educating customers who don't understand that pet welfare must come first and that we are not trying to be difficult when refusing a pet sale. It is difficult to hear someone tell you 'it's only a Hamster' or 'it's just a fish', educating customers like this is challenging but not impossible. The most enjoyable moments are the pets that come in to store, the cuddles we are privileged to accept; customers dogs excited to see you as they are walking around the store, it never fails to make your day and really helps to build a rapport with customers. Working with such a passionate and dedicated team is an honour. Attention to detail is important to ensure that customers maximize promotional opportunities through the use of point of sale items such as flags and roundels, such items help to increase sales and profit growth whilst assisting stock control management through sales. Watching the business benefit from your own ideas andmore... passion is exciting and rewarding.less

There is always something new to do/learn even after 9yrs withthe company. They are always working on improving welfare for pets and colleagues. the people who complain about bulling/ pet welfare should have been aware of the confidential numbers available to call. There are also things like student contracts/ birthday leave extra time off for 'pet birthdays'(eg 5yrs with the company) The hardestparts of the job are days when you have too much to do like delivery, promo change and range reviews, but I enjoy the challenge. The best part of the job is working with pets, the relationships you can form with customers and freindships within work.
birthday leave, good holiday allowance, great opportunities for promotion, training
