Fantastic company to work for
Problem Manager (Current Employee) –  Frating, Essex21 January 2019
Penguin Random House is a great company to work for,
An excellent benefits package and aware of a need for flexibility in the modern working world.

Opportunities to work from other sites, assist other teams, progression throughout the business, not just within technology.

Keen to advance people with plenty of training sessions and management who really do care

Lovely colleagues and good work ethic culture
HR Systems Administrator, TBS Book Service (Former Employee) –  Colchester5 June 2018
Lovely place to work, good sense of challenge and always seemed to have a good support network throughout the business. Regular company updates from senior management gave a good sense of direction for the business as a whole. Small or little chance of progression as so many people have been there for so long and positions rarely become available to continue growth in a new career.
Pros
Great Canteen, free books
Cons
Under resourced

A large Publishing company
Accounts clerk (Current Employee) –  Colchester6 August 2018
This is a very busy department, where there is always something to do. Each person has their own accounts and email and phone skills are essential. I have a supervisor and a manager in the department of 12. The hardest part of the job is time management, when it is busy.
There is a subsidised canteen and free tea and coffee.
Pros
Free tea and coffee, free car park

Fixed term worker
Telesales Representative (Former Employee) –  Colchester18 August 2018
Worked on The Good Pub Guide which was meant to be a 9 month (FTC) contract but ended at 6 which to the best of my knowledge the current campaign was completed at 6 months, there were no further outbound calls to make beyond this - so more disappointed to see these facts not reflected in a reference later provided by the company and see no mention that I was ever fixed term which could give totally the wrong impression about me to prospective future employers.
Pros
Free car parking, cheaper canteen lunch, 35 hour week, good wage.
Cons
Stand alone role, no commission, no bonus as they get you by being temporary it is not payable for short term FTC

passionate and inspiring staff - low compensation and reward
Business Analyst/Project Manager (Current Employee) –  London12 September 2017
this is an industry that thrives on people being so passionate they don't mind receiving a low salary. there is no transparency when it comes to pay and no opportunity to discuss your salary (you're told not to ask during your annual review).

There is a gender pay gap, despite being one of the few industries that is very female heavy (particularly having a brilliant and even mix of MD's).

The staff are the most passionate people I've ever worked with and the management want to lead and inspire, which they really do. the culture can vary from division to division - some being more open to Flexi-working for example (so choose wisely!) along with the pay.
Pros
free books, passionate team mates, annual sales conference
Cons
low salaries and really slow advancement up the ranks

I knew we weren't going to be part of the job going forward as soon as we were bought out ,They had there reasons to secure their own jobs ,but sadly we were never part of the equation.I wish the business well but feel the business lost a lot of experience and automation.
