Cinema host (Former Employee) – Bristol, UK – 3 December 2018
Really enjoyed working for the Odeon, we had a great workplace culture, great insentives and a fantastic management team. I learnt a lot with this job and would deffinatley consider going back when I go back to the UK.
Such a cliquey environment to work in. If you’re not willingly happy to talk about people behind their back then you’re the one being spoken about. Takes full advantage of new starters and old staff don’t make anyone feel welcome and makes you feel like you’re in the way and just a skivvy. They lightly show you how to do jobs and then leave you to struggle whilst they stand chatting to other staff. No one helps anyone and everyone is stuck up... anyone that’s worked there longer than 2 years think they’re managers and without a doubt have criticism on how you do things. Management is awful! No sympathy or help when asked... they’re only focused on making profit and do nothing to solve situations you try to arise to them. Very sarcastic and rude and constantly speak down to you all the time. Other managers like to tell you how certain managers don’t like you and how they talk badly of you and tell you that no other staff like you, which in my opinion is very childish and unprofessional. They’re not understanding in any situation and don’t like to listen unless it’s about the job. Hours are ridiculous! If you ask to changed your availability they straight up say “no if you don’t like it then leave, this is retail for ya”. They take the absolute mick with the rest period, you could finish at 1am and be back the next day at 12pm.. no fairness in splitting shift and favouritism is given to people that are pally pally with managers as they’re always given they days off they want and most weekends and you never have a weekend off unless you use your holidays and if you overmore... 18 your evenings are none existent as you’ll be on a close every shift. Staff are just ignorant and rude and all stuck up. Each and everyone don’t know how to treat people with respect. If a problem arises with a guest it’s put on you to fix it and management try and put you to blame for the issue. Free films is a good pro but it’s very very rare they allow you in to watch the film because of the small capacity space and also you can only take one person in with you and that’s only if the managers allows it so it’s not really a pro unless you go on a Monday morning when it’s dead. Constant moaning of uniform being unclean but yet they only provide you with one top/hat/apron and put you on 5 shifts in a row, with not spare time to actually wash the uniform. All in all an absolute horrible place to work where you’re made to do every job, such as cleaning and fixing things like blocked toilets, cleaning sick and other things along with being treat like a slave and having constant rude horrible unappreciative guest at your throat. All for just above minimum wage and not one thanks given. You’ll never be appreciated for trying your best and for doing everything you can as quick as you can for the guest. Not worth the misery.less
