Sales Consultant and Delivery (Former Employee) – Manchester – 11 November 2017
I worked at the Next in the Lowry, Salford and the staff were great and everyone was like a family because it is a small store. There was only one fairly small floor with all deparments on so im sure you can imagine how many staff there were - not a lot. i loved working there from the staff to the environment to the customers because of where its located.
Team Coach (Current Employee) – Manchester – 4 November 2017
Staff are expected to do a lot in return for minimum wage and little appreciation from the company i.e building furniture and decorating. Friendly staff and management, good training programme and good staff discount. Staff are expected to work unsociable hours quite a lot, especially at Christmas and sale periods; finishing at midnight and back in at 9:30 the next day. Not unusual for staff to have just one day off at Christmas (usually christmas day- how generous!) Repetitive work day, very little opportunity for progression into higher roles. The best thing about my job is the people I work with.
Very high expectations of staff, minimum wage, small contracts.
Administrator (Former Employee) – Manchester, Greater Manchester – 12 August 2017
I worked for the company throughout my time during my studies at university contributing to the team as an experienced member of staff. Despite this the investment in staff is often superseded by the pettiness of management on the sales floor.
Despite this, i enjoyed my time with the majority of fellow sales assistants who are supportive of other staff studying. I learnt customer communication skills and above all patience, it is a role where you will have to learn to hold your tongue and be calm in sometimes hectic work environment. Very good source of income with flexible hours for students. Except at Christmas to which you will not have a Christmas eve nor boxing day
Sales Assistant (Former Employee) – Manchester Fort – 24 July 2017
Whilst working at next, what struck me was how professional the company was, whilst also retaining respect and admiration for their workforce. This balance meant that it was not only a productive place to work, but also a calm one as the professionalism of the company instilled a great attitude.
Delivery, Replenishment (Former Employee) – Manchester – 3 June 2017
These are the things I picked up on working at a Next warehouse for a year:
Management was poor. In particular at the warehouse I worked at where new information about delivery processes was not relayed well to staff, sometimes I would not even know about it and then get in trouble for not doing something correctly when i thought I was.
People are extremely lazy, be prepared to be wasting your time moving clothes that have been randomly dumped by lazy staff members down bays where they don't belong!
Its not great for your back if you're processing delivery.
I felt there was also a little favouritism in regards to letting certain people finish early, extra hours and people that were NEVER required to work at store even though some people that were constantly sent didn't want to.
The only benefit of working there for me was the staff discount and the friendly workmates. I would only look to apply here if you are looking for a few days work a week if you are in college or university. .
Staff Discount, Friendly workmates, Easy work
Low contracted Hours, Low wage, No communication, Not a very enjoyable place to work.
Assistant Manager (Current Employee) – Manchester – 22 November 2016
Good (but not great) company to work for. Big focus on staff but managers are often forgotten about unless you're a Store Manager. Difficult to progress within the business as managers often remain for years.
sales assistant (Former Employee) – Manchester – 4 November 2016
One of the nicest places I've worked in so far, I loved every minute of it. I do enjoy working in retail as I do love fashion and its a fun job. the people I met were lovely and on the whole its a well managed place.
Sales Consultant, Next (Former Employee) – Manchester – 4 November 2016
I thoroughly enjoyed working here as it was a very productive environment with professionals who can be professional but at the same time be fun to work with. The managers and the team i worked with was a pleasure and it was one of the best environments to work with.
Next - Sales Assistant (Former Employee) – Manchester – 27 July 2016
Although it was the busiest time of the year I unfortunately suffered a family bereavement and Next were very understanding and didn't hesitate to give me the time off work that I needed. I really appreciated this.
Retail Assistant (Former Employee) – Manchester – 20 July 2016
I worked during the first day of the sale from 12-4pm, it was very busy and I learned that shoppers have very little respect for items in the sale, they drop items on the floor and just abandon items they pick up in the mad rush to get a bargain while store assistants work hard to ensure the rails are replenished. My duties involved stock replenishment and signposting shoppers, there was limited opportunity to get to know coworkers as it was so busy. The hardest thing was keeping on top of the mountain of items abandoned and ensuring they were returned to the correct areas in the store. That said, it was a very enjoyable experience knowing that I was working and would be rewarded at the end of it with my pay!
