Good place to work
Well paid, relaxed working environment with excellent staff benefits. Some roles more stressful than others but overall it was a good experience working there

Abolish and create a new organisation
Agree with the some of the other poor reviews on here. Place is a shambles. Management do not respect or listen to their staff. Status quo is maintained and nothing improves. Stinks of management looking after their own self interests. Not a place to work if you value work satisfaction. Organisation moves at an extremely slow pace. Definitely not a dynamic or fast paced environment. Management lack skills and cant make a decision... leave it to staff and then they suddenly have something to say
...some of them would be VERY hard pressed to get jobs elsewhere. AVOID.

A Good Pace to Work
Natural Resources Wales was the most inclusive company I've ever worked for as a temp. Everyone was friendly and helpful. There were no clicks or ignoring the temp.

You scratch my back and I will scratch yours type of place
Title says it all really. This place is mis-managed to the highest level I have ever seen. People pass the buck - do no work themselves and criticize at every opportunity. Avoid.

A wide variety of interests within the same organisation can make getting work done a frustrating challenge! There is good level of flexibility in working arrangements

Lets waste money on contractors.....I mean WASTE
Lots of external contractors in this place. Probably earning upwards of £500 a day at least
Some have been employed for years. Just goes to show how much this org bleeds cash.

It purports to protect the environment but then how can it when that sort of cash could be put to good use elsewhere. Organisation that is not respected by staff the public or other bodys. Unfortunately it seems that the org and its management from team leader level upwards is only there to protect itself.
Cons
No perks at all

100% Culture Problem - Work Ethic Non-Existent
Place is choc full of delegators. People coming up with initiatives and reviews and pretty much doing nothing else. The tax payers of Wales are being robbed daily. Full of management that cant make a decision in case it comes back to bite them so absolutely no work gets done. I mean they cant make ANY decision.
If you do raise your head and try do something good then you will be shot down by someone sticking their oar in by someone having the loudest opinion. Team leaders who cant lead AT ALL and are just basically there for admin tasks approving holidays and adding sick leave on the system. I have no idea what HR are for???

Team leaders who have little or no knowledge but can really talk when they need to, again place is choc full. Staff in the whole are great but the lack of leadership trickles down so that some staff will do absolutely everything to get out of work and what I mean by work is searching for an excel file or something menial that in any other job wouldn't be even thought of as work. The culture is most definitely wrong here with cliques all over the place and really management level are to blame for this kind of behavior to become rampant. Dont even mention the word stress as you'll either be promoted or encouraged to talk to everyone and their dog about your issues. They have no understanding of what work is. Culture is broken.
Pros
Flexible working

Nightmare management
Glad I managed to escape. Majority of the Board are useless with the exception of 1 or 2 who prop the rest up. Very little care given/shown to staff other than falsely through forced communication from the comms team.
Everything seemed to be a false promise and there’s such an internal conflict on the organisations priorities that nobody knew what to do half the time.

Easy life if you don’t care though and just want somewhere you can work flexible time and not really be held accountable for anything.
Pros
Flexi, location
Cons
Nearly everything!

Organisation still finding its feet
When I took Voluntary Early Release from NRW I felt that the organisation was still finding its feet and still developing its organisational culture. The organisation is made up of staff from three predecessor bodies - it has very qualified and capable staff and once the organisational culture, to an extent still felt like three separate organisations, and priorities are clear it would be an excellent organisation to work for. The difficulties during my time of employment may now have been resolved - if not fully at least to some extent.
Pros
Salary and benefits package very competitive for North Wales
Cons
No clear sense of priorities or organisational culture

all talk but no action kinda place
It's a good place to work if you are prepared for unstructured 'play it by ear' approach. You mostly get chucked into a deep end and learn how to swim independently. Different departments have different opportunities but with majority you are stuck in the same position for many of years with no clear progression plan. The vast majority of people hate working here. Friendly and relaxed environment does help to get by...
Intellectual level is varied. Most managers got into their positions through pure luck or through personal contacts. The whole place does lack a back bone. You'll find that you are either being micromanaged or left to your own devices, depends on your manager's mood. Hitting the brick wall when carrying out every day duties is not unusual. 90% of the time there will be no guidance so you'll have to figure it out for yourself.

Other than that, most people are nice and friendly, good flexi working arrangements, pension, sick pay etc.
Pros
Flexi working, pension, other benefits
Cons
Poorly managed

Everyday is different, learning different skills and how the company works. People are lovely and easy to get on with. Good work environment and lots of site work, getting time in and out of the office.

Great group of people and very good job. Shame it was only a short term contract. Great salary and enjoyed working as part of the Welsh Coast Path.

Poor Change Management since merger
NRW lack thought for its employees. They have become numbers rather than people since the merger of CCW, EAW and the Forestry Commission. The employer will become worse before it gets better
Pros
Good pay and work life balance
Cons
Changes ahead that rock the Pros

A very pleasant place to work
Working in Natural Resources Wales informed me of many actions which they undertake.

Part of my role was to support the Head of Flood and Risk Management by arranging his diary, taking minutes organising meetings with outside agencies and liaising with members of

staff.

This role also included working with all members of the department organising travel and hotel accommodation and also dealing with the T & S submissions on a monthly basis.

I found it a very worthwhile position
