Managers that are only there to collect a salary are allowed to thrive while they do no more than pretend to do their tasks. This is because they are highly confident their failures will either be corrected by any poor sap they target to abuse. Failing that they can always resort to blaming any other team and likely get away with it. Bad people get paid to be worse than useless and Mitie culture enables them. No wonder these awful people apply to work there and once in settle down for an easy pay cheque while they wreak havoc.
Does MITIE require pre-employment background checks? What kind of background check does MITIE do and how long does it take to complete?
Background checks are outsourced to Procius (which is connected to Mitie somehow) they are TOTALLY USELESS, took a year of repeating same questions and sending in same documents.
Or they sucker you in as a Cleaning Operative "The job description may be varied from time to time by the Company to reflect changes in the post holder’s role and/or the needs of the business." So one day your happily using the bog brush on the porcline and then you are in charge of MITIE security on site .Working with the bog brush is much better than being in charge of security for MITIE" we they should change the "M" in Mitie to an "S" and make the job description reflect the job being paid for !
If I was in charge I would ensure that employees could report bad managers and have their concerns listened to and investigated. As it is when I made two complaints about a manager I received no reply at all. They were by email to my line manager so it could be that this was not the correct process but then why was I not informed of the correct process? Why was it that my complaints and i were ignored? It really is no surprise at all that Mitie is infested with teams that produce work that is worse than useless. Useless would be nothing done at all but with Mitie you get to see work that is masquerading as something useful but is actually harmful to Mitie. So to get things done correctly you have to unpick their offerings as well as do their work for them, as I said it is worse than useless. For an added insult the work is peppered with comments meant to imply blame for things not getting done on anyone or any team that the manager thinks may be plausible, no doubt the manager concerned thinks this is very clever of her. When I tried to call this out, I was mocked and then ignored and fobbed off. It came out towards the end of my time there that this manager's rationalisation for her decisions was that she decided I could do this cleaning up for her in my own time because I don't have any children and I can do it after work in my own time. I do not know how it is acceptable for a manager to decide that they can use a subordinate in this way rather than do their job and ensure that the team they manage can do the work that they are paid to do.
When you are in a group of people that enable bullying that is stressful, it's actually the worst thing about being bullied. Mitie enables bullies because of a culture where no one feels that there is any hope of doing anything about them. So everyone lets a bad person do bad things and sort out the harm they do. Bad managers are being paid to do harm and are so confident that they can do it they mock anyone trying to call it out. I saw this and time after time stopped the real harm the manager did until I had to go. The manager had persuaded everyone that this was ok because I had the spare time! How is it ok for a manager to decide what to do with another persons spare time in any case?
For the people that care about doing a good job for the good of Mitie and their colleagues the pace is such that you end up spending your own time correcting the mess made by people that only care about themselves. There are people at Mitie who are there to collect pay and pretend to do their jobs. Everything they do is for their own benefit and if that means they do harm to Mitie that doesn't stop them. Mitie lurches along with problems stacking up for a long time.
Fires start and have to be put out with a money hose, unless a manager can find a person who can sort it but they won't be rewarded with anything except more problems to resolve. It's stressful for anyone who cares about doing the work that should be done.
But for the most part you can pasx as working when you're not.
