Mchft
A good salary in line with Agenda for Change Policy, however the Trust have a poor understanding of the term ‘Work-Life Balance’.

Good parking facilities which other Trusts local to MCHFT, severely lack so this makes the start of the working day much less stressful than for our colleagues at UHNM.

High pressure working environment
Working in the NHS is high pressured but very rewarding. Leighton Hospital is a friendly environment with hardworking, dedicated staff. I have worked there for 6 years.

Poorly managed
Extremely poorly managed and poorly treated with little or no respect for anything that’s considered personal,no opportunities to progress.absolutely no trust whatsoever with so called management far more interested in catching staff out than doing their own job.the overall atmosphere within the department is terrible and staff morale is rock bottom.not a nice place to work with poor pay and terrible treatment.
Pros
Compulsory training
Cons
Poor treatment poor wages no respect or staff morale

Over worked and underpaid
Like the majority of the NHS mchft staff are overworked and underpaid. Wages are so far off other corporate scales with no opportunity for progression or increases for loyal staff who have reached the top of the grade. What really sets mchft apart is the lack of forward planning and organisational skills which can be seen from the admin grades right up to the executive corridor. Money wasted on agency staff with permanent employees disheartened and frustrated with the lack of interest or support from managers. As this is a caring professional there is a presumption that staff can and will go the extra mile for patients and essentially this is what happens. Come on Mid Cheshire you can do better than this!!! Why don't you invest in your loyal, hardworking staff from Admin to Nurses instead of paying out agency staff and "golden handshake" payments to doctors....no wonder the NHS fails with such wastage of every cash injection delivered..
Pros
Acceptable pension. Reliable work
Cons
Very poor wages, no development, poor managers

Awful
As a domestic you are the lowest band in the hospital and don’t you know it. Nearly everyone looks down on you while your cleaning the wards, nurses/doctors will ignore you, not move out of the way while you’re trying to get past with your cleaning trolley. This is not every department but the majority. This place is all about what uniform you wear. If cleaning other areas and wearing scrubs people will then speak to you because you look more important. You are always expected to do more than you can and proper training doesn’t exist.
Pros
Extra pay during weekends
Cons
Hierarchy

Very busy and demanding job
The most enjoyable part of the job is assuring patients that we will look after them and ensuring that the patient is put first at all times.

It's a busy place with twelve theatres operating most days and emergency theatre open 24 hours a day. I learnt a lot about the operations although mostly in general surgery.

Workplace culture was not great really as there is a definite hierarchy and not so pleasant if you're on the bottom of it. That is definitely the hardest part of the job.

Caring and rewarding workplace
If you enjoy working and caring for people a hospital is the place to be. Working alongside like minded people days are fun, full and challenging. Working within a busy and fast paced environment can bring challenges where schedules can and are changed at short notice. But to know you have helped bring about a diagnosis, care for someones health and well being and improved their life is incredibly rewarding and makes a job withinin the hospital community most enjoyable.
Pros
Good rates of pay (for Maternity and Sickness also), Good Holiday entitlement, Access to further training
Cons
Shifts including nights and weekends

Stressful and highly pressurised environment.
I have worked for MCHFT for 15 years as a staff nurse and there has been much change in my time here. The pressure of the workload and sheer lack of support and understanding by the management has made my position as a registered nurse a risk. The ratio of patients to staff numbers is dangerous! They bang on about dignity and respect, but quite frankly there is very little for the patients when you are unable to give the care that we as nurses are trained to do. I am thoroughly exhausted both emotionally and physically after each shift and can hardly manage to take a break in the 12 to 13 hours that i am on the ward. There are very little training opportunities, this is a problem now especially with revalidation. Furthermore, it is not uncommon for staff to have to complete mandatory training on their own time. Consequently, i would not recommend working at this establishment unless you are prepared for a very stressful experience.
Pros
Some nice staff.
Cons
Highly pressurised environment.

Stressful environment & lack of management care
The ward is very busy & always understaffed which can result in conflict between staff, especially staff nurses & health cares.
Shift patterns vary massively & ward managers often put you on shifts you specifically asked not to be on & ask you to do 4 or 5 shifts in a row to cover which is exhausting.

Management do not support their staff enough & tell them to 'get on with it' which of course they have to care for the patient.

Ideas are often dismissed out of hand, even if it helps the patient.

The workload gets in the way of working well with everybody & there is conflict on a daily basis between staff due to the amount of pressure & stress put on people.

There is no scope for advancement unless you want to be a nurse.
Pros
Some fantastic caring people work there

lack of management support

Rewarding
Working at mid Cheshire has taught me numerous skills that not only help me in the work place but also at home. Long hours and sometimes unsociable times.
There's not really much room for progression as a health care assistant.
Cons
Face has to fit
