Not a great place to work
Customer Representative (Former Employee) –  Chichester16 July 2019
When you first join the place seems great.
Then once you have been left on your own after basic training by another member of staff you are left to get on with it and just do it.
Managers don’t respect you and speak to you in a awful tone but expect you to be the up to the job in a matter of weeks, one talks to you like your nothing very unapproachable avoid him at all cost.
Always starting before my shift actually starts to do catch up from the day before as there is not enough time between calls to do your job, or never given time to be able to complete these requests therefore your always behind.
Constantly chasing information from other departments 99.9% of calls are because of delays in other departments and they then don’t answer their phones to help you when it’s needed.
Overall for the pay you get it would be worth looking elsewhere for a job satisfaction. The agency said this was the perfect place to work I would have to disagree.

Set up to fail - enter at your peril!
Pensions Administrator (Former Employee) –  Chichester, West Sussex5 July 2019
Unrealistic about how much someone can do in a day especially when systems don’t work properly and no fixes seem to get put in place. This is results in your day spent chasing your tail from complaint calls and emails. When raised with the team manager response was "this is how it is, it was far worse 18 months ago".

Very little training for new team members or when new procedures or calculations are introduced. Some training for new employees is done by staff who have only been there a couple of months when training could be done by senior administrators within the team. I was left to decipher process notes from the previous person that looked after that scheme before me.

Managers don't know what is involved to process the work themselves and shun taking escalated complaint calls. Poor communication, no sense of team exists.

There was high turnover of staff during the 9 months I was there with 4 of the 12 leaving and only 2 being replaced.

If only the reality matched the corporate gloss of the company's promo material.

good employment benefits

unrealistic workload with no support

Senior Client Services Administrator (Current Employee) –  Glasgow, Glasgow5 March 2019
Use client's as piggy banks. 0 career opportunities or development opportunities. Dreadful annual salary increases and bonuses.

No clear direction from management and a culture based purely on recording time to bill clients.

Waiter (Former Employee) –  Bank, London15 September 2018

Fun Work Place
Admin Assistant (Current Employee) –  London2 May 2018
Mercer is a good place to work, plenty of benefits and a good pension package.

Various departments and looking after 31 people so everyday is different and challenging.

The hardest part is dealing with using the system where the consultants record and charge time its an annual thing but can be a very painful but complex task.

Being able to organise people as well as events and socials is the fun side of it all.

All in all overall its not a bad place to work, its just difficult to progress and move internally. Plus for a large company like this they don't pay well.

For my job, it was alright. There were some meetings that promoted the company and what the intent was overall with the business strategy but very few companies have it all figured out for employees.

Job came with good experiences and perks. Management is pretty abysmal, it's who you know and office politics.
This makes advancing non existent and work stressful.
Pros
clean tidy, free coffee and tea, good hours.

Administration/sales (Former Employee) –  Bristol14 November 2017
worse place I ever worked!! Managers with no idea how to manage people, from the lowest level to senior management. pressurised work environment, extra work loads with no financial reward. Bullying on a scale ive never experienced and lack of good management meant it was just pushed under the carpet. .

No work/life balance. No praise or acknowledgement for the hard work and effort put in by all employees. Ethics towards clients all wrong. I work with fantastic, under appreciated people.

Billing Coordinator (Current Employee) –  Manchester24 September 2017
Really enjoy working at Mercer, people are great. Work / life balance needs addressing. Salary isn't so good when you're working 40 hours and more instead of 35 hours.
Job security is questionable in recent years.

Associate (Former Employee) –  Glasgow, Glasgow18 July 2017
Worked in the Glasgow office. Good structure in terms of appraisal system, goals, day to day job. Great bunch of people however, the company expects too much from their staff with very little in terms of benefits. Hardest part of the job was work / life balance. Expected to work additional hours / days off and made feel guilty when you couldn't. Best part of the job was the people - just s shame the company don't appreciate what fantastic staff they have.
Pros
Great colleagues
Cons
Long hours expected of someone at my level. Poor Management

Product Owner (Former Employee) –  Croydon4 June 2017
The business in the UK felt like an old boys club, promotions were very hard to come by. A typical day involves dealing with internal tickets regarding key systems.
