Fast paced but rewarding working environment
Manager/Supervisor (Current Employee) –  Edinburgh Park18 January 2019
The pace of work is very quick but the environment and culture makes it a very enjoyable and rewarding place to work in. If you want to further your skill set in your on-going career, then I can't think of another company which allows you to have such an opportunity.

Great place to work
Manager (Current Employee) –  Midlands12 January 2019
Great place to work. The work can be difficult, but it's very rewarding. The business is driven from the top down and that shows within the management culture.

Like any workplace you'll always face challenges, but if it was easy then it would be boring.

Exciting future ahead. It's a great time to join.
Pros
Great team culture. Lots of drive and ambition to succeed

Great Place With Really Decent People
Warehouse Operative (Current Employee) –  Newbridge, City of Edinburgh9 January 2019
I have worked in a few companies both large and small. Menzies Distribution is somewhere in between in terms of size, the culture is great, management are experienced and supportive, the pay is not bad and company benefits to decent.

It feels like a rather large family and there is plenty of work to avoid any boredom setting in.

Overall, really likable place to work.

HGV Class 1 Night Driver (Former Employee) –  Preston, Lancashire17 December 2018
It was a happy time, all staff were friendly, the management left you alone as long as you were doing your job. They put you through your drivers cpc and paid you to do it.

Warehosue Worker (Former Employee) –  Wakefield25 November 2018
It was a very busy work place with little order from management, this made the work seem chaotic. The problems lied mainly in the management and the lack of order.
Pros
pay
Cons
lack of management

good team environment
Deputy Night Manager (Current Employee) –  Chelmsford21 November 2018
Over the course of my time at Menzies I have learned a great deal including completing my fork lift licence, becoming a manual handling coach and gaining a qualification in health and safety in the workplace. Where a lot of the guys have been here for 10+ years it is a very good team environment with a lot of knowledge across the board. The hardest part of the job is when the newspapers arrive late and everybody is rushing to get out on time to get to the customers as early as possible.
Pros
Experience and knowledge of surrounding areas
Cons
Long hours, Nights

Shocking place
scum (Former Employee) –  chester8 October 2018
dont bother going for a job here they will hire you for 3 months and if you say your mind they will let you go before the 3 months probation time is up. staff and management will throw you in at deep end and not show you how to do job, as your meant to know already. DONT GET BREAKS, when i asked i got told to hurry up so i can get break after a 7-8 hour shift (when i had finished shift), bit if your a eastern European you can take a break after 2 hours. managers haven't a clue how to run the shift or get the best out of people. lads on lorries have to fraudulently use tacagraphs to show they have had a break (in real life they are packing on line). working nights for £9 an hour with 30mins stopped for a break you don't get. if papers are late in you have to work until all papers out at shops. no help with going on new rounds, just told to do it. customers complaints every day and no back up. wouldnt waste my time with this shower, they are a sinking ship and know it

Poor organisation and bad management
Packer (Former Employee) –  Paisley, Renfrewshire20 August 2018
Communication between staff and managers was very poor. Organisation was also pretty bad. Often found ourselves waiting around with nothing to do while waiting for deliveries. Relationships between different shifts, such as day-shift, twilight, and night-shift, was rather antagonistic, with managers from one shift making decisions that would negatively impact another shift.
Pros
free newspaper
Cons
long hours, too cold in Winter and too hot in Summer

No prospects, But fine if you are just after a job.
Customer Service Advisor (Current Employee) –  Menzies Linwood26 July 2018
I've been in the CSC for two years. New management took over and sacked 3 managers that had worked for them for over 20 years to cut down on wages.

So, no prospects of promotion or advancement unless you are happy to wait for one of the lower management to die.

The job itself is fine; you clock in, take abuse for 8 hours and clock out. Repatative, menial, easy, low aggro, managers don't really bother you unless you are blatantly doing nothing. Training is good. lots of help.

Menzies is known for being one of the worst companies in the world. Their service in everything they do is abysmal. This is mostly due to the management in the delivery branches being untouchable.

If you are comfortable working knowing that most of your efforts to help customers wont amount to anything then you should be fine here. Monkey's can do the job.
Pros
Easy, low aggro work, Shift patterns are early morning -handy for childcare
Cons
Zero job satisfaction and no promotion prospects.

Most unorganized warehouse in England
Warehouse Operative (Former Employee) –  Wakefield, West Yorkshire20 July 2018
The managers do not have a clue what they are doing , Certain members of staff are allowed to squat and leave stuff on the toilets , total lack of leadership , The managers couldn't even run a bath let alone a company , One of the main things needed for the job are pallets , on a the busiest days there is not enough pallets and then on the quiet days there is enough pallets? They can spend 75k on robots which collect dust but cant give staff a pay rise! DO NOT let the 4 days a week fool you , this is a company which will literally drive you to the ground. Also VERY Short staffed and they think the answer to that is spending MORE money on agencies who are usually non English speaking and Do not have a clue what they are doing
Pros
3 day weekend
Cons
Rubbish Managers, too much work not enough staff.

IT Service Desk Team Leader (Former Employee) –  Edinburgh, City of Edinburgh12 June 2018
Job is very varied as many different applications supported and users vary greatly in knowledge. Responses extremely time critical especially overnight as company has a small time window to complete distribution of product.
Hardest part of the job is trying to balance between being reactive and proactive

Variety and excellent canteen

potentially long hours

Senior Supervisor (Former Employee) –  Stockton-on-Tees10 June 2018
The job can be straightforward if the deliveries come on time but sometimes there can be implications that cause the job to have a great amount of pressure but sometimes pressure is a good thing for some.

Newspaper Delivery (Former Employee) –  Stockton-on-Tees1 June 2018
Drivers start very early in the morning, so as to get paper deliveries to shops on time.
I learned a great deal about how the company worked, even though I was only a sub contractor
The hardest part of the job was loading the van with the newspaper bales and scanning them in shop order.
Pros
Out on the open road

Waiting around for papers to be delivered from publishing facilities
