This company sounds brilliant and they make sure they talk you into it, please don’t believe their lies.
The higher management really don’t care about the people below them, they will happily let you struggle through.
Pros
50% discount
Cons
Lack of respect from higher management

Work life balance is laughable.
All the effort is put into you making the place look fun and exciting yet behind the scenes it's just stress and agro.

On my days off my phone was constantly ringing or having photos sent over WhatsApp .

So even your day off isn't your own.

Made me development anxiety &self doubt .

Overall I enjoyed my time working at loungers, I opened a new site at Mumbles, until my promotion to junior sous chef at zinco lounge and then I transferred to cofio lounge in Carmarthen, when it opened. I enjoyed it because no two day's were the same and I liked being busy, my favourite section in the kitchen was tapas and hot section, and always Strived to motivate the team, especially on a busy service. Only downside was I often worked over my contracted 48 hours, and never got the time back, also when finishing late expected to be back in at 8am.
Pros
Free food on shift. Loungefest .
Cons
No work/life balance .

Sous chef for 2 years, held the kitchen without a head chef, did food orders from home on my days off to help out, wasn't appreciated, underpaid overworked. Ops management don't care about anything but themselves
Pros
Lounge fest
Cons
Useless opps management that just look after themselves

I worked in 5 different Lounges, two on a more permanent basis. My first Lounge will always be 'my Lounge'. Welcoming, friendly team and efficient, relaxed environment. Even at its busiest, a Lounge always remains cool, calm and collected. Management are super personally involved - no sitting in offices while staff run shifts. Lounge teams are like families.
Pros
Pleasant atmosphere to work in, discount
Cons
Working environment can vary depending on Lounge placement

An amazing company to work for. Progressive, passionate and dedicated to quality. My time there has been extremely enjoyable and I am very sad to have been made redundant due to the Carona Virus and business cut backs

Loungers promise the world and deliver less than nothing. It is very clicky and if you are not part of The original click you can guarantee you won’t be there for long. I arrived at the company and was told about all back stabbing which was not very professional. 0 help from higher management if anything very dismissive and u helpful I saw several GMs come and go with no help and blamed for things out of their control due to lack of communication from higher I saw many kitchen members promised the world and promotions to bribe them into working too many hours that never materialised nobody had a clue what they were doing just awful
Pros
Ok opening/closing times for hospitality
Cons
Everything else

I found out Tarro Lounge were short on chefs, so I applied. They were desperate to recruit as I was contacted on Tuesday, interviewed on Thursday, filled an online exam on Thursday afternoon and employed on Friday!
Some places say they are "busy", and we were, BUT chaotic, unorganized and stressful were more in keeping with what a normal shift entailed!

Far too many menu items for the size of the kitchen team and the size of the kitchen, every shift was stressful. Shortcuts occurred regularly (unwashed spinach) because there was no time to do everything "by the book"

ALL dishes were weighed/portioned but realistically this was too much considering the few chefs we had, so a lot of "guess work" was involved!

Area manager was pathetic, all "matey" to your face then rubbish you to the GM.

I did 2 months and left to a more organised and civilised restaurant.....on a better wage!

I won't even eat in Lounges anymore!

So far this is the best place that I have worked at, co workers are like family and always welcoming and helpful to new team members, management is also good. Best staff food as well. Being behind bar is my favourite, I love making the cocktails!
Only downfall is zero hour contract, one week you could work 15 hours and the next you could work 30. But other than that it's a lovely place to work.

I applied to join loungers as a General Manager and was offered a designate role as the role had already been assigned to another candidate. This role was offered with the progression to area/ops manager as they don't actually have area managers. I found that the ops manager incharge of my area micro managed her management team by dialling in an editing rotas on single days before without notifying team or letting GM know. This obviously effects staff moral and service. I also found it strange that they put team members on standby constantly and expect them to be available at the drop of a hat, but no guarantee of pay in place. There is much more I can go into, but in general this young company needs to look into there operations and treat there teams better

They put this big emphasis on were a team and we all pull together etc just to get as much out of you as possible but give you little back... 0 hours statuary sick maternity etc.
Whole place was a bit of a shambles with people in all the wrong roles. I worked at a new lounge and they were obviously offering jobs out as people interviewed instead of doing group interviews so you ended up with far better people in lesser roles than the head chef. Rotas were coming out with two days notice. I was constantly given up to 70 hours a week and asked to cover when I made it clear I wanted no more than 40 hours. Sometimes not enough time left between shifts. Finishing at 11pm and starting at 7am etc. Just very unorganised so a very unhappy workforce so the atmosphere is awful.

-illegal working hours, expected to work extremely late and then be back the next morning with the amount of hours in between being lower than the legal minimum
-impossible to plan a personal life around work as they only tell you your shift hours at the end of the week

-made to feel inferior and spoken to sarcasticly by supervisor

-straight away thrown in to doing everything whilst former employees get to relax and sit around
Pros
Friendly manager, pay is okay, no uniform
Cons
Hours, rude staff, short unpaid break, stressful

There is no form of work life balance the company expect you to throw yourself in to either8-closes or 10 closes always split shifts and then when you finally started getting ill from over work and exhaustion they don’t want to hear It I worked for the company for over a Year between multiple sites and they don’t look at progressing staff like they make out they just hire in when ever they just hire new less experienced people in

The management staff were appalling I've never been made to feel so unwanted or unsure of my abilities before. If you weren't one of their favourite staff members then you didn't matter. I understand a new open is stressful for all management involved but quite frankly management at this site seemed incapable of even vaguely meeting their duties. More time spent on facetime calls and smoking than actually interacting with staff. It had huge impacts on my mental health Nd left me with a constant feeling of anxiety and self doubt. I repeatedly had important messages to the GM ignored for days on end. Was given next to no hours while thosegm admitted were less competent at the role had their hours increased
SinceleVing o have requested a written reference multiple times and have simply had my requests ignored. I was never offered any of the extra hours available despite showing willingness when I first started and never having turned down the few extrashifts o was offered in the beginning. I was never given my first five training. I was left to figure everything out for myself on the go. Had am who booted me off the coffee machine whilst midway through serving a customer for no apparent reason leaving customer at the till very dissatisfied and me feeling as though I wasn't.good enough at my job. Overall a very frustrating place to work, verycliquey management team.

An absolute shocking company. I came here, which was well below my skill set, because I was sold the promise of career advancenent, and the whole "Loungers Dream", despite my concerns of my age (55 at the time)
My "training" consisted of working alongside other chefs in another busy Loungers outlet. THAT was an eye-opener to how the company operates, and I should have cut and run after my 3rd shift!

Along with me were two equally decent chefs in training who both gave me their opinions just how poor it was. One didn't finish his 2 week training and the other quit his role in the first week he took over his new role!

The unit I was placed in had a poor talent pool of chefs. There were two who WERE decent, but punching above their weight, whilst the rest of the kitchen brigade consisted of school leavers and uninterested cooks just there "for the laugh" with no intention of career development.

My first week I observed Food Safety Policy ignored when food was regularly re-labelled instead of being thrown and recorded as wastage. I was told this was the norm so the outlet would achieve its bonus targets!

The FOH team, apart from the GM were incompetent and had no idea how a team should be worked, it seemed one continual laugh all day, every day.

Whenever negative reviews came through on Tripadvisor, the assistant management team would joke about it.

The BOH team would be required to wash dishes, which I steadfastly refuses to do.

Whilst the salary did seem reasonable, I worked out the hours I did, which were a LOT more than the 48 they promise you, worked out at £9.40 per

I have never felt more unwanted!! Don't work for A new open! My good nature was abused over the opening period I didn’t have a day off I agree to do extra hours here and there when they were struggling and how have I been repaid?? With a grand total of 11 hours average a week. My interview gave me the impression I was getting a full time job! The management team are useless, they have there favourite staff and if you’re not a favourite you may as well hand in your notice as you’re just going to get tossed to a side unless you’re needed for the weekend shifts! The last 5 or so weeks i have only been given weekend shifts. This job is damaging to my mental health and I am really struggling. I hoping to hand in my notice in the near future but first I have to battle my depression and anxiety which has worsened considerably since working for this company
