Demoralising
Driver (Current Employee) –  Edinburgh, City of Edinburgh10 May 2019
The only things that make it worth it are the pay and some of your colleagues.
Company is in a very uncertain time at the moment, under staffed, morale very low and brown nosers. A definite case of the favourites get the best shifts
When I joined it was a decent company to work for, but those days are history. Senior management seem more interested in boosting their CV to impress others.

Lothian has clearly forgot that unhappy staff leads to unhappy service, and unhappy customers.
Pros
Decent pay
Cons
Management. Brown nosers. Low staff morale.

Good money horrible job
PCV Driver (Former Employee) –  Edinburgh1 April 2019
Decent pay but that's where the positives stop. Expect to be abused by the public and treated even worse by your depot manager. Bullying comes from the top to the bottom. Management will bully you and hassle you if you are off sick. They will put you on final written warnings for the least little incident. They will take great pleasure in constantly threatening you with your job. Guys in the garage you work with are all that makes the job manageable

None

Will send you down the river
Bus Driver (Former Employee) –  Edinburgh12 October 2018
Being a driver within Lothian you're always worried about getting pulled in for any minor things due to customer complaints. They will never take your side so you're always worrying that you will be in trouble. The shifts are terrible and as someone has already stated - new starts are on less pay for 3 years and get all the worst shifts. It's a case of "If your face fits"

If you want a social life then avoid working for this company.
Pros
Good pay and good work mates
Cons
Long hours, terrible shifts and bad management

Used to be great but new management have destroyed the place
PCV Driver (Former Employee) –  Edinburgh, City of Edinburgh4 October 2018
Used to be a great place to work but it's very negative now. Management are not to be trusted and there is a definite blame culture. Like to make up there own rules and flaunt employment laws and it's all about penny pinching. Staff turnover is at an all time high for a reason!!! Salary is great but only once you have done 2 years at a much lower rate and much longer days.
Pros
Great people to work with, canteen banter. Good pay (eventually)
Cons
Poor work life balance. Long hours, shocking management

Stressfull
Driver (Former Employee) –  Edinburgh Longstone16 May 2018
Lothian Buses have the potential to be a good employer with decent pay and conditios (once on double decks). Management to heavy handed, once in the door always looking to sack you. It can be a stressful job and you are only as good as your last drive.
When it comes to Christmas duties, do not plan ahead as if lucky you will be informed of this 2 weeks before hand if lucky!!!
If management both senior and junior become a bit more staff, people friendly the company would be a much better place for all.
Pros
Pay and shifts on double decks
Cons
Managements lack of respect for staff.

driver (Current Employee) –  edinburgh11 May 2018
i used to be a good person or at least i thought so.This company will break you if you need to work.driving a bus is the easy part, dealing with traffic awkward passengers and running times can be hard going. Can be stressful.work colleagues a good bunch for the most of them.Discipline protacol is a joke you are presumed guilty until proven otherwise.Something must be wrong if this company turns over so many staff year after year.
Pros
good pay and good banter
Cons
no job satisfaction.no respect.

Terrible management
Bus Driver (Current Employee) –  Marine garage25 February 2018
Union sold out. Conditions for new starts are poor. £2 per hour less than everyone else for the first 3 years and your at work for ten hour days and only paid for Eight. Disgraceful. Shift work will kill you eventually as will the lack of exercise. Dealing with heavy traffic and the public, you need to be a super hero or a robot to do this job. Management are horrible!
Pros
Plenty O/T, great cameradre. Job security
Cons
Heavy handed management. Poor shifts. Long driving hours.

Driver (Former Employee) –  Edinburgh22 February 2018
It is stressfull driving bus and dealing with some morons which management could do with being a bit more suportive as a lot of the public are at it !
Good comradere and a good laugh with colleagues .
Double deckers are the best and once you get of the single decks and split shifts the shifts are better . Potential for lots of overtime . Still kept their conditions so enhanceable overtime .
Dont sell it guys , be warned !!!
Enjoyed my time there .
Pros
Not bad shifts, pay not bad, good comradere
Cons
Management and heavy handed discipline, get out office and deal with punters/traffic

PCV Bus Driver (Former Employee) –  Edinburgh9 July 2017
Driving a bus is not the hardest job in the world but it is a very stressful one. you have to have you wits about you all the time whilst driving in very congested streets and having to deal with some very awkward and rude people.

Massive divide between single & double deck drivers
Driver (Current Employee) –  Edinburgh5 June 2017
Shifts r not fairly split, paid breaks for some and not for others! Work/life balance is non existent. Company lacks in the basic areas, although the union are there the votes are already 75% of double deck drivers that are out for themselves therefore nothing will change for the new drivers coming in til someone with authority realises this!
Cons
Long hours, shifts, rate of pay
