Close knit team, very supportive, on-going training and chances to move forward with your career with palliative care.
Providing support to patients and families, being able to give time to patients one to one. Learning how to run a shift within in patient unit.

Staff very supportive and caring.

Hardest part of job was internal rotation, and personally unable to cope with demands of night duty
Pros
supportive team environment
Cons
work/life balance difficult to manage with internal rotation

A typical day of work consists of making sure the store is well stocked, repricing items, till work and general cleanliness of the store as well.
It can be fast paced when there are plenty of customers, management is always kind and they look after you.

Great pay as well, all round really good job.
Pros
Great salary

knowing that you are working hard for a hospice that provides free palliative care is fantastic, great team work not just within individual sectors/shops but also with a supportive head office that encourage advancement and ongoing training to develop staff and volunteers to achieve their potential.
Pros
great teamwork and knowing what a worthy cause you are helping

I was a shop volunteer under this organisation for a long time. I was manipulated, verbally abused, lied about and to on a regular basis. What an absolute nightmare of an organisation katharine house is.

All the payed staff standing around talking about themselves none stop doing no work whatsoever. Then they would take credit for my work, picking up the items I had been processing, looking me in the eye and saying "right I've done this". I was once told by a deputy manager that she doesn't do steaming, and that it's my job.

Payed staff never get off their phones, the manager of the Donna Louise charity shop in leek (whilst under katharine house) was on her phone constantly.

She was openly chanting in support of the EDL in the shop whilst it was open.

So much disturbing behaviour, I could not possibly fit it all in this review.

I was treated so absolutely appallingly that it took a great toll on my mental health.

When I complained, I found out that the people at the top are just as bad.
Pros
None
Cons
They clearly hate volunteers

Although this is a hospice the environment inside the hospice is a very happy one which i think is a fantastic testament to the nursing staff.I can honestly say it was a joy to go to work and took great pride that i was able to help raise funds to keep the hospice open and insure its future
