Testing but Rewarding.
Drivers Mate (Former Employee) –  Sheffield17 January 2020
A great place to work with good work colleagues who both encourage and have a laugh, customer deliveries can be stressful but ultimately rewarding, good rates of pay.
Pros
Good pay, colleagues and environment.
Cons
Can be stressful at times with customers.

lost its way
Customer Sales/Support (Former Employee) –  Reading, Berkshire17 January 2020
completly lost its way. Salary was terrible, long hours with no thanks. Bonus scheme on its way out. Shame, John Lewis used to have an unrivalled reputation but everyone leaves. Rather telling with such a high turn over of staff

Catering Assistant - Part Time (Former Employee) –  Welwyn Garden City17 January 2020
John Lewis is a challenging role, sometime with good benefits and salary. It is enjoyable to work there, communicating with customers and other employees.

can be challenging
selling support (Former Employee) –  High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire15 January 2020
JLP is not for everyone, the internal culture is at first very strange to the uninitiated & though training, particularly in the technical departments is
good, for those in the non-selling side is at best inconsistent.
The bonus is often needed for most staff, though the vacation sites are
very good & staff discount can go a lot further when in combination with
some offers
Hours are generally very flexible, though at peak (October- January) holidays will only be granted in special circumstances

The partnership
BPP (Former Employee) –  London, Greater London9 January 2020
It’s a cult. The pay is decent the bonus is good the training and culture is phenomenal if you get placed within a good store with good structure you’ll be fine. Old style mangers still exist in JLp where they think they are exempted from any rules they put in place. 39 hours full time ! Good prospects yet politics are rife and if you don’t look the part ! You’ll be sent home to change. Some girls was in tears most days

Such friendly staff and managers and I’ve loved working here.

The staff are treated fairly and the company offers great benefits after three months.

Training is good too.

Relatively a good workplace
Warehouse Assistant/Forklift Driver (Current Employee) –  Blakelands3 January 2020
It is a complex job that requires some medium skills.
The new employers are used for hard work that requires at least 8 hours of foot standing and continuously moving.

Great starting point but not many advancement opportunities
Merchandising Assistant (Former Employee) –  Victoria, Greater London30 December 2019
A great entry level job for someone, but not much support in ways of advancing. You are expected to figure everything out yourself as you “drive your own development.” Management very self-absorbed and usually focussed on advancement themselves.
Pros
Good benefits, social work environment
Cons
Old-school ways of working, no respect for innovative ideas or processes

Warehouse Assistant (Former Employee) –  Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire30 December 2019
a good place to work and develop, the business promotes equality and treats its people equally. The salary is good and there is always a chance of a pay rise at the end of every financial year as part of ones appraisal.

Sales Assistant (Full-time) (Current Employee) –  Cheadle, Cheshire17 December 2019
Hard to feel as though your position holds value. Not easy to excel role or progress any further. Often feel as though skills are wasted and hours are extremely long (average 10 hours)

Better than most
Operations Partner (Current Employee) –  Birmingham, West Midlands11 December 2019
Started working here when the store initially opened back in September, I was on shop floor to begin with (children’s) which was great. My team was the best and really supportive, but management was not as supportive as the could’ve been, especially when people leave as they do (school leavers, jobs in different sectors) your work day was a bit more strained. I moved to operations recently; a new role in the business, really really liking it. I moved initially because I needed Flexibility with my hours because I had recently started university and being in back of house allowed me to work longer days than being on shopfloor. Also not being customer face is nice as well because there aren’t certain pressures to make a sale. Overall I think John Lewis is a great place to work especially if you’re part time. The benefits are great 25% discount on everything except for sale and electrical but we also have other partner benefits including discounted Cinema tickets I am

Not a good place to work anymore
Driver (Former Employee) –  Park Royal, Greater London23 November 2019
Not a good place to work anymore, management just want you to do more and more, the bonus is no good any more, is not the same company period, not since around 2010 then everything starting to change

John Lewis & Partners - Decent Company
Warehouse Operative (Current Employee) –  Glasgow14 November 2019
Overall a great place to work regarding wages, benefits and opportunities to move forward. Unfortunately after working my way up to a lead operator I've found that certain parts of the culture from the top down are wrong and sometimes feels like a lack of democracy.

Customer Delivery Resolution (Current Employee) –  Hamilton, South Lanarkshire30 October 2019
good benefits, good people to work with, left to work by yourself which is good as you are not closely watched like other call centre job roles. Different shift patterns are good
