Sales Assistant (Former Employee) –  London16 October 2018
Unfortunately the promise of a far and supportive environment is not there anymore. The staff at your level are supportive. The head office do not recognize the work and value of shop workers and are treated with contempt. It was very disappointing to find this from such a great brand.
Pros
discount if you can afford the products
Cons
Canteen poor. No chanse of promotion within 5 years.

Treated as an individual, rewarded with great benefits. In return, Partners are expected to take responsibility for their performance, by looking at what they have done and how, allowing the business to set expectations and enabling happy workers.
Pros
Pension, Shareholder, Discount
Cons
shifts, Weekend Work and Long hours on Occasion

Not a great comp[any in my experience.
expected to be able to split self into 5 people in order to serve in different departments, not enough staff anywhere and management is a joke. you are left to fend for yourself and get on with it.

Friendly but strict workplace
Sales Assistant (Former Employee) –  Oxford, Oxfordshire10 October 2018
The people working there were so lovely and I was treated well by all of the staff. However was very strict on uniform and behaviour. Felt like I was being watched all the time to see how I was giving customer service, and their standards of customer service were too high and felt unachievable. Would make me feel uncomfortable in how pushy they were with making you give 'excellent' customer service, as in would make me almost pester customers that clearly didn't want to be approached and start conversations that felt unnecessary and almost intrusive.
They also make you do a ridiculous amount of training for things that don't realistically help you with the job, yet things that you actually need training for are just expected of you to already know.
Pros
Lovely people
Cons
Pushy on customer service, make you do too much training for irrelevant things

HR Generalist (Former Employee) –  Bracknell, Berkshire9 October 2018
Can be difficult to initiate change or feel like you can make a decision which is strange given coowned nature of business. Change seems to be a constant with next initiative started before previous one even implemented.

Most people are genuine and try their best.

Good work / life balance.

Left because of lack of progression opportunities.

Liked Working There But Weekend Work
Selling Assistant (Former Employee) –  High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire8 October 2018
Liked working there they were not able to offer a part time post. Very different from my previous career but liked talking and selling to customers. You will be required to work every other weekend and on those weekend it is the full opening hours (long days).
Pros
Nice staff, good experience
Cons
Long hours on your feet, working every other weekend

Cliquey but managers try
Selling Assistant (Former Employee) –  Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire1 October 2018
Generally neutral experience.

As a seasonal temp my team felt very cliquey. On several occasions I overheard snide comments about temp staff being boring or useless with zero precursor. Most other team members were nice, some especially, but a couple of others ruined my time there. A minority of customers could also be incredibly rude and sometimes downright cruel. I ended up crying at work several times because of customers and another team member.

There was very little on the job training to build product knowledge, pretty much just trying to find someone permanent who had time to explain things. Most managers were very appreciative of us though and made a real effort to welcome us, but were often very busy and hard to get hold of when needed.

Very long hours on your feet. I'd often go home in agony. Pay was alright and other temps could be good fun, but break patterns meant there was often no time to socialise. I enjoyed interacting with most customers and moderately busy periods.
Pros
Okay pay, good canteen
Cons
Long hours, cliquey behaviour

Unsupportive management, no proper enrolment
Supermarket Assistant (Former Employee) –  Suffolk1 October 2018
There is no property enrolment into the job. On my first day the manager was not even there and I actually have never seen my manager face to face during the time I worked there. So, the first day enrolment was left to the usual supermarket assists who worked in the store and who were really reluctant to do it as they said “it was not their job”. You don’t feel welcome when you start on the first day and they put you straightaway at the till on the first day even though you don’t know anything yet, neither the store nor the goods.

There is no spirit of the team so far, doesn’t feel that the management cares about their workers much, you come and go - nobody cares. Everybody constantly discusses how the management makes their life more difficult, gossip and discussing behind the backs - toxic atmosphere. There is NO spirit if the partnership unfortunately. Seems the ideas are only on the paper

Tiring work without support
Supermarket Assistant (Former Employee) –  Wootton, Northamptonshire30 September 2018
A typical day will usually be one of these standing on your feet, sitting down at the till or constantly moving around to find products, stock rotate them and then put them out. or constantly move around to fill up for the understaffed areas.

you will have to take any opportunity you want for yourself and seek it out personally since only a few people will have good opportunities provided for them. and any training either online or physical will have to be done in overtime or at home to avoid being criticised.
Pros
Great Staff, Generally Good Customer Atmosphere, Partner Benefits, Good Starting Pay
Cons
Antisocial hours, Too many managers, Some awful managers, Lack of Advancement

General Manager (Current Employee) –  Horsham, West Sussex16 September 2018
Little to no succession planning means that senior leaders are left in situ for a long time. This has left myself feeling unchallenged in role and keen to seek new opportunities
