I used to work for James Hay for 10 years and I would not recommend it. It was very stresfull job with no support from the management, no very good pay or benefits. They want too much for what they offering.
Pros
Good hours
Cons
Stress, low pay and no support

Heading in the right direction
Senior Service Executive (Former Employee) –  Salisbury11 October 2018
There is constant change in process, procedure and management. The workload is consistently high, but to me this isn't a bad thing as I always enjoy a challenge.

There is a history of a lack of sufficient management training but I have seen some massive leaps in James Hay addressing this issue by launching a series of training sessions and providing better tools.

The work/life balance for me is ideal, having previously worked in hospitality, having a set Monday to Friday, 9 to 5 is ideal. There is often the opportunity for additional paid overtime at enhanced rates.

There is a great social committee that put on various events throughout the year, being in Salisbury there is also a great social life that comes as part of the job.
Pros
35 hour week, Benefits
Cons
Legacy staff

Generally Meh!
Senior Valuations Team Administrator. (Former Employee) –  Bristol4 October 2018
Not a bad company to work for in retrospect. but still a typical pensions company.

stress filled and poorly managed.

I would not recommend unless you just wanted 6 months experience and had an escape plan.
Pros
Not bad systems
Cons
poor management

Decent Workplace Severely Marred by Poor Leadership and Lack of Discipline
Administrator and Service Executive (Former Employee) –  Salisbury8 April 2018
Team leaders seem unable to deal with toxicity within their teams which leads to bullying and a complete lack of motivation and drive to complete the immense workflow of each day. You will never be given positive performance reviews even if you are doing well and getting work done efficiently, the only updates you'll receive are the negative ones. There is no illusion that you're not an expendable cog in a faulty machine. You will be overworked and given no positive motivation.
Pros
A few friendly people, good experience for the future.
Cons
Poor team management, overwhelming workload, toxic office environment, bullying culture.

Not enough training, too pressured, low pay
Administrator (Former Employee) –  Salisbury, Wiltshire25 July 2017
I was treated unfairly at James Hay and was driven to resign. They care only for numbers and statistics not for their employees. Over time has been cut and there are no bonus's so there is no way to earn a 'living wage' and no way to progress in the business.
Pros
1 Hour Lunch
Cons
No overtime or way to progress in the business

Interesting company to work for
Service Executive (Former Employee) –  Salisbury, Wiltshire29 March 2017
No two days are the same working at James Hay! The IT systems are relatively easy to understand and training tends to be provided via workshops and within the team itself. In general, everyone who works at James Hay tends to be both friendly and approachable and willing to provide support to their newer colleagues. The only downside is that the IT systems themselves can at times run slowly; this can impact on productivity and make what should be a simple task time consuming which can put unnecessary pressure on you. The induction process for new employees is extremely positive; everyone is made to feel supported. Regular meetings during the probationary period ensure you are on-track and any gaps in knowledge/ability can be discussed and plans put in action in order to gain competency. The company does require for people to use their own initiative and be self-motivated if they are to progress, which is no bad thing. All in all James Hay is a good place to work for.
Pros
Friendly work colleagues who are happy to assist newer team members.
Cons
Slow IT system; can impact on productivity.
