A horrible environment where supervisors/managers are cruel. You are over worked and under paid. They do not care for the welfare of their staff. Never pay you correctly. There is no support system and everyone seems to have their own set of rules.
Pros
Over time always available
Cons
Long hours, hostile environment, lack of support

The most horrendous organisation that I have ever worked for.
Contact Centre Agent (Former Employee) –  Ashford, Kent2 January 2019
Management are only interested in themselves and building their own ivory towers. Promotion is on a “if your face fits or the line manager/director is a friend” basis. Many of the managers are grossly out of their depth and couldn’t manage to run a bath without making a ‘pigs ear of it’

The organisation says that it is open and value your views. That’s as long as it’s what they want to hear! Don’t bother raising a concern, because it’ll be filed in the section marked ‘B1N’

They portray a family friendly image. That’s fine as long as you don’t want to see your family.

What used to be a friendly work environment is now one with very unhappy staff and an oppressive atmosphere.
Pros
Finding it hard to think of one
Cons
Incompetent management, oppressive atmosphere and a business built on nepotism.

Learning and Experience (Current Employee) –  Ashford, Kent28 December 2018
The people that work at IC24 are the best! It is such a friendly and supportive environment to work in.

No two days are the same which makes the work day very interesting, but that's the way I like it!

There are a number of different opportunities available to staff to be able to grow and learn new skills such as the distance learning courses made available to all staff.

I have been able to progress my career through the company which has been a very rewarding.
Pros
Friendly and supportive

Lost the plot
Support Services (Former Employee) –  IC246 December 2018
Sad to say that the company is no longer what it used to be. Used to be a nice place to work with friendly & supportive management & supportive support services. However, in the last few years it has completely changed! People are rude - they walk by & don’t acknowledge you. Many long standing members of staff are pretty much pushed out the door; if your face doesn’t fit! Used to go into the offices and be welcomed by smiles, now everyone looks miserable & unwelcoming.
Have seen so many people come and go, many of whom have been treated awfully, it is really sad how the company has turned out as could have been a great place if only they appreciated their staff more.

As a call handler you really know you are the bottom rung of that friends only ladder.
The other call handlers are the only thing that get you through the day. Terrible hours, they change shifts, always ask for overtime and only allow holiday when it’s about to roll over (if you didn’t manage to book it in the first 8 minutes it that they release it each year).
You will only advance if you are friends with management (who are lazy ‘post turtles’).
The pay is ok-ish but you have to check it every month because they manage to get it wrong very often despite it being automated.
Incredibly stressful and completely thankless.
They spent a hideous amount of money on a new phone system when we actually needed new chairs, bigger desk space and adjustable screens to make it legal.
When they update the system, they expect and guilt people into coming in outside of their shifts to do a 4-6 hour update on the changes.
The salary advertised is the highest possible if you only worked weekend and evenings.
Pros
No leaving interview because they don’t want to hear it.

Manager (Former Employee) –  Ashford28 November 2018
Poor company with no development and managers not interested in staff just cash. Lots of promises and ideas of development but this never happens and very high staff turn over.

Dont ever be ill thats not allowed!!
NHS 111 Pathway Advisor (Former Employee) –  Ipswich10 August 2018
The job can be rewarding helping the patients but also can be upsetting at times. The other call handlers are great but not management.

Don't expect any support from them, if you have an emotional call that is upsetting and draining they don't care, you get 5 minutes then back on the phones.

If your off sick more than 5 times in a year your sacked even if it's not your fault, even if they send you home as your not safe to triage the patients also if your off sick then you have an overtime ban for 2 weeks.

Night rate is the same as day rate, you have to work 4 full weekends in 6 and Christmas and New year.

If your face fits you will get on well but otherwise you won't last, they will try and find a way to get you to leave.
Pros
Helping patients

management, hours

Awful
Call handler (Former Employee) –  Wakefield, West Yorkshire19 July 2018
Absolutely awful. Call handlers work their bum off, clinical team leaders/advisors are horrendously rude and arrogant. One tip - even though they say ring clinical when you have a concern - don’t. They are so rude and speak to you like rubbish like why in the world are you ringing them. The hours are shocking, you get monitored how many times you go to the toilet, go for food, drinks, breaks, meetings, everything. You don’t have a choice about when and what to work, you work all bank holiday, Christmas, ne year... it’s such an awfffffulllll job I can’t even describe. Anyone who wants their social life ruined, their dignity ruined by continuously being spoken down to - go for this job!
Pros
10.85 per hour was a decent wage.
Cons
Everything over then the hourly wage.

Catering Assistant/Waitress (Former Employee) –  Ashford18 June 2015
During a days work, I would make refreshments for the call handlers. They would call me over and ask me to make them a certain drinks. Everyone there was very friendly and respectful. I enjoy working there.

Call Handler Level 2 (Current Employee) –  Ashford, ENG5 January 2015
This job can at times be very stressful when the telephones tend to get very busy. The company offers plenty of training to improve the your skills and there are opportunities to further a career. Staff are very friendly and as a whole tend to be very helpful. Working in this role I have learned that patience is a virtue and that no matter how small some problems may seem, to some they are very concerning and that all some people need is a little bit of reassurance and understanding. The hardest part of the job is dealing with patients that are dying or relatives of those that are dying or have just passed away. We are only supposed to be on the telephone for as long as we need to deal with the problems and those in their final hours and the relatives sometimes need a little longer, which is difficult when you know that you need to close the call. The best thing about the job is hearing a patients gratitude when you know that you have made a difference to their day and when they praise you.
Pros
patient satifaction, friendly working environment
Cons
working weekends, everybank holiday Christmas
