A challenging role in which I'm supported to push myself positively
Housing Officer (Current Employee) –  Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire21 June 2018
My typical day is customer facing, delivering support and advice to residents. I'm often presented with challenging situations and depend on the support of management and colleagues to reach a resolution; I feel that I've had this support throughout my time here and have been supported in taking on additional responsibilities to develop my own skills.

I've been pushed to learn new things and given a great number of opportunities to do this.

I've worked across a number of teams and found each to be welcoming and supportive, providing me with a range of work. The general office culture, in my experience is a friendly one, where I feel happy asking anyone for help or support where needed.

The hardest part of my job is also the most enjoyable. This is working through a challenging problem or situation to a positive conclusion where someone is being supported better or able to access services they were not able to before.
Pros
Beyond the belief of being in the right part of the sector and helping people in what I do, I enjoy the free use of gym facility in office, paid subscription to professional body, opportunities to apply for training that interests me, good social life with friendly colleagues!
Cons
Dealing with customers can be challenging, day-to-day tasks can change suddenly as priority work arise

Be prepared to work hard, fast and furious
Administrator (Former Employee) –  Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire9 May 2019
The job looks great on paper and once you're there the company ethics etc couldn't be better. Probably the best pay in the area but the job has very high expectations expect to be on phone all day everyday as it is customer focused. However, there's a downside you are expected to work hard in between the calls, deliver all reports in timely manner, chase former tenants and send out mail shots.
So if you are prepared to work fast, deliver quick and tick all boxes you will enjoy this fast and furious pace, certainly not for the faint-hearted. If you want to work at your own pace, manage your own workload and have no pressure, then look elsewhere. Management are supportive but seem powerless when all they want is to be seen to be meeting targets for this growing company.
Pros
Free onsite gym
Cons
Workplace culture is fast and driven

Lousy work/life balance
Assistant Support Worker (Former Employee) –  Aylesbury4 May 2019
Expected to work 7-8 days on the trot with 1 weekend off a month. Management not helping matters either as they are forcing changes onto SU's whether it's suited to that Scheme or not. Avoid.
Pros
Friendly staff on floor.
Cons
Expect to be there all the time.

Great Company
Support Worker (Former Employee) –  Aylesbury2 May 2019
Hightown housing is a great place to be. What sets them apart is their desire to develop their staff as much as they can. You always have a key worker who is there ready to help you with any development courses you're doing and they're always there to tell you when you're underperforming in the nicest of ways.

Needs to modernise
Manager (Former Employee) –  Hertfordshire23 January 2019
Old fashion mind set and systems. High expectations from staff. There is potential but nothing seems to be working right other than generating massive monies and profit.
Pros
1% annual payrise, nice head office
Cons
No flexibility, strict management, micromanagement culture, high disciplinary rate

Truly Lousy Company
Support Worker (Former Employee) –  Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire24 August 2018
'Tight Town', as they were known in my scheme are purely driven by money. They cut everything to the bone and wonder why the entire staff team have had their morale crushed and then left. All the money they saved, and a lot more, has been spent on covering shifts with agency staff, who have no knowledge of the service users, who are the ones who suffer in the end.

Don't work for these, there's much better out there.

Working within Health and Social care is very demanding but not without rewards, you get to see people learn new skils and be more independent. Its a good company to work for.

Rapidly growing company
Assistant Manager (Current Employee) –  Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire21 June 2018
Hightown is a rapidly growing housing association with a great reputation amongst peers and the local area.

The facilities at the Head Office are modern with a gym and there's a good atmosphere of people wanting to work together. The Head Office location is great as it's easy to get to and there are plenty of shops and cafes around to go to in your lunch break.

It is expected that staff work hard and have a can do attitude to their roles but the best thing is knowing you're making a difference to local people.
Pros
Making a difference, modern offices, great location

Over worked and under paid
Care Assistant (Former Employee) –  Hertfordshire13 June 2018
Lack of backbone from all management with tackling high sickness levels and absences which left the scheme short and gave the devoted staff overworked with low morale. New contracts now cause issues as staff are doing the exact same work for less money, again bad for morale and causing a division in the teams and leaving more paperwork unfinished resulting to the standards to drop. I had been with the company for a very very long time and gave up in the end for my sanity and left. Used to be a good company to work for. Maybe it will again one day?

Low pay and long hours, management culture that doesnt listen
support worker (Former Employee) –  Hertfordshire1 May 2018
I went into this company hoping to gain satisfaction helping people.
On a typical day I was overloaded with work due to short staffing.
I could not wait to leave. Workplace culture is inflexible. Managers are inflexible and tend to micro manage staff which does not get the best out of staff.
Some enjoyment helping clients but this was offset by the practices and policies of the company itself which were draconian and inflexible.
Pros
some training was good
Cons
stress and poory pay, punitive management

Avoid working for this company if possible!
Manager in a project (Former Employee) –  Hertfordshire16 March 2018
I have worked for Hightown for many years in a senior position.
Not one of the nicer housing associations to work for. Head office care & support managers not very supportive of staff in the schemes, support workers looked down on by some head office staff.

There is definately a different culture between head office and the schemes.

Graduates have been taken on by Hightown and put in managerial roles that they hardly have experience for.

Head office managers overload staff at schemes to the point that it makes it to stressfull to continue in their job role. Organisation had lost some really good scheme staff because the way staff are treated and not listened to.
Organisation need to restructure from the top down. Get head office care & support managers in that really care about the people they are supporting!

CEO needs to either step down or open his eyes and look at what is really going on within the schemes, why do staff feel so let down by the organisation, why are care & support managers based at head office not listening to their scheme staff and acting on what they are being told about staff being overloaded with work, underpaid, stressed because ultimately it will have an impact on carrying out their job role. Realistically as a credable organisation at some point these concerns will need to be addressed.

Such a shame as if i go back a few years ago, it was a nice organisation to work for!
Pros
Going back some years ago, used to be a nice company to work for

Inflexible and regressive work practices
Services Administrator (Former Employee) –  Hertfordshire21 October 2017
Inflexible working culture. Staff are deducted days wages when sick. Managers don't listen to new ideas. If CEO not likely to favour it, ideas go nowhere. Difficult to progress. Ceiling level salary practices limiting opportunities. Managers don't motivate.
Pros
Parking
Cons

Carer (Former Employee) –  Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire14 August 2017
Head office and care home run very separately with very different outlooks. Care homes car, head office keep very much away from the hands on care and are un realistic around what is appropriate and achievable within the care environment.

SUPPORT WORKER (Current Employee) –  High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire18 June 2017
Have been working as bank worker in different schemes . A typical day start with a handover from the sleep in staff and a working ningt staff. After handover you allocate each staff with activities for the day. You spport the service users with personal care and their breakfast. After breakfast some will be ready to go to different day centers, some will be going shoppling and others to their appointments depending on their needs for the day.
Pros
Pension scheme
Cons
If taking a client out you have to buy your own food

Not the best company to work for
Support Worker/Carer (Former Employee) –  Buckinghamshire15 March 2017
I worked for this company for 4 years and i couldnt wait to leave soon enough!
In my experience, no real progression, graduates given best job roles and opportunities to move around within the association and progress but devoted staff who had been with the company for years never really given that opportunity.
Staff run off their feet and bogged down with paperwork and files.
No real sense of feeling that your hard work and long hours were appreciated.
Pros
Supporting residents to achieve their full potential
Cons

Couldnt wait to get out of the job
Assistant support worker (Former Employee) –  Stevenage, Hertfordshire26 January 2017
The scheme I worked in was always short staffed, managers so bogged down with paperwork and Rotas that they didn't manage the team. No compromises given and management wouldn't listen to ideas to improve the service. No respect given to the staff apart from managers favorites.
Gave up permenant role and went bank to experience different schemes
Pros
Lovely staff and service users
Cons
Managers not open and honest
