Supportive and therapeutic environment
Volunteer (Former Employee) – East London, ENG – 25 June 2013
Headway is a service provided for people who have suffered a stroke or an acquired head injury. Headway provided therapeutic services, physiotherapy and exercise classes, art classes and offered a key worker scheme. A typical day working at Headway involved participating in group events, such as gardening, cooking, art classes and group discussions. Working at Headway taught me that when a person experiences a traumatic physical injury of some sort, this can affect many aspect of a person's life. The hardest part of the role was seeing how frustrated many service users were with their impairments. The most rewarding and enjoyable part of the job was working with people who used humour and good will to make a difference in people's lives.
