If it wasn’t for the people i worked with, I would’ve left a long time ago.
Sales (Former Employee) –  United Kingdom30 May 2019
Horrendous customer service, which we are left to deal with, the company employs high management from competitors to try and improve their brand, but instead get sold the same rubbish that the other company’s try and flog you, yet they don’t take on board any of the competitor plus points ie fully paid Christmas dinner with partners/ purpose staff to do the store arranging. Our buyers haven’t a clue about what customers want, and considering how long harveys have been going they should’ve nailed their business plan years ago.
Pros
Wages if your store is one of the busy ones
Cons
Everything else

Positive vibes right through this company. Staff treated right and rewarded for good performance. Poor performers supported rather than sacked. I would work for them again

Frustrating
Customer Service Advisor (Current Employee) –  Lutterworth6 April 2019
A typical day at work involves taking calls non-stop(apart from breaks). In most cases, this includes abuse from customers if you aren't able to give or tell them what they want. The lack of focus on customers due to company procedures is especially frustrating.
Pros
Good colleagues
Cons
Working 1 in 3 Saturdays and all Bank Holidays(unless booked as holiday)

Customer Service Advisor (Former Employee) –  Lutterworth, Leicestershire13 February 2019
You want to work in a modern day workhouse, then this is for you. This place is a sinking ship, jump on at you own peril. Poor management, no benefits, and people screaming at you all day for faults you have no control over which the company will not fix.
Pros
At least you can leave at the end of the day.
Cons
You have to go back tomorrow.

Fun place to work
Telesales assistant (agency) (Former Employee) –  Lutterworth, Leicestershire1 January 2019
Harveys was a really fun place to work with an amazing salary and great training provided. Like most places though there was quite a lot of bitchiness as people from different departments didn't tend to interact. The job itself was quite repetitive and you could sometimes get spoken to in a bad way from customers so you do need a thick skin. All the teams leaders were so lovely and couldn't do enough to make you feel welcome and included. I think the main issue was job security they seemed to get through employees like there was no tomorrow which obviously was abit of a concern being young myself and needing the money. It was sometimes LONG hours also of doing the same thing over and over.

Senior Store Sales Manager, Loughborough (Current Employee) –  Loughborough10 October 2018
As with all salesroles, what you put in is what you get out, opportunities are there to earn, team development is key. Need to be aware you work in small teams.

Friendly staff but some were patronizing
Sales Assistant (Beauty Department) (Former Employee) –  Halifax10 September 2018
I worked here for a week of work experience. I found the other workers very friendly other than the manager in the beauty department who at the time came across as patronizing and seemed to take advantage of my young age by giving me jobs in the cellar (which was freezing and dirty). I do not recommend working in the beauty department for work experience because of this.

Have to work weekends and late nights
Sales and Customer Service Advisor (Former Employee) –  Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire8 August 2018
If you get along with your colleagues its an alright job, if not you will find the job boring. You're expected to clean the shop and build furniture when you're not with customers (they don't tell you this on the job discription or in the interview).
Pros
Commision
Cons
You don't get your commision if the product isn't delivered

No progression, unrealistic expectations with incorrect investment
Sales Assistant (Former Employee) –  Scotland31 July 2018
I was for Harveys for several years and it only took me from moving to a larger company to see how things should have been done. The management have a clique attitude, the overall work rate is never valued and an unrealistic expectation is set where if you do very good you should always then outdo yourself. There is a lack of funding in key elements of the business and an overall lack of investment in the right areas where Harveys try display one store in one light but do things on the cheap with the other store. In Scotland especially it tries to live off the Reid’s standard customer but the quality in the production is not there regardless of how it’s staff try to put a front on they themselves can see the decline. The way they waste money in not correctly dealing with customer’s orders or returns could prevent bad customer service if they got it right the first time, customers don’t want to fight for a little compensation they just want the product they asked for, as far as Scotland - half their stores have shut in the last 5 years, so it is most definitely not a prospecting business. Terrible bonuses and basic for the work you actually put in, in comparison to other jobs.
Pros
If you hit target you will make okay money, not amazing... okay
Cons
Poor management from top to bottom, order handling, investment, competitive salary is non existent, lack of value for any person under the age of 35, outdated business, lack of quality

Sales Advisor (Former Employee) –  Enfield5 July 2018
this job is quite challenging as trying to convince customers to buy products and services can be hard as every customer is different. Also, meeting high standard sales objectives will keep you focused and motivated to keep moving forward.

Poore place to work.
Sales Assistant (Former Employee) –  Carlisle, Cumbria3 July 2018
Harveys was a poore company to work for.

Senior management would visit the store, spend all their time on phone or lap tops, never inter act with staff. Increasingly, they had quality issues, furniture delivered in a poore condition, deliveries delayed. Delivery staff would hide damage to furniture, to achieve target. Customers were increasingly disappointed.

On site management would take sales off you,
was obsessed with paperwork, reluctant to interact with staff, if not in the clicque.

When I first worked there, commission was ok, and paid "next month", Now commission has been reduced and now paid after delivery of goods, Much of their furniture is atleast 12 weeks delivery time.

In this industry, January and Easter sales are busy periods, you have to earn good commission then. After that the store is quiet or dead.
Pros
Manager would let you finish early, when quiet.
Cons
As above

Dont work here if you enjoy being happy.
Assistant Manager (Former Employee) –  Scotland30 April 2018
Commission structure works that you have to earn more than £450 in commission before you see any money, which is incredibly rare and 'your fault' if you don't. Constant culture of fear.

If you don't enjoy being happy and being chucked into a pit of depression then this job is for you!
Pros
The shifts eventually ended.
Cons
You had to start a shift 5 times a week.
