Management is 42 hours. Supervisors normally 30, senior team normally 25. Normal team member anything between 4hrs (weekend worker) to 20 hrs.. Most are on 16. I started on 16 hr contract but did 30-39 a week due to lack of staff and people off.
Rules was changed to allow you to wear your trousers and shirt into work. But not apron and cap. This is because most greggs don't have proper changing areas. Before the rule change you had to change in toilet which is not hygienic so hence the rule change.
Shifts can change on a daily basis. Look at hours one day but next 15 mins or more can be added or taken away so makes it difficult to make plans.
Depends on what shop to how the management is. Most in shop management is OK but it's higher up wbo are out of touch. Take area managers. They used to run shops ages ago before a lot of changes. Head office will change "the greggs way" and area managers will enforce the changes even if not practical, not every shop is built the same so you might not have the room to implement the new way of doing something. You tell area manager this and they ignore you. They should be made to wok in a shop again so they can see what it's like now. So many rules/guidelines which often change. Think greggs is losing its "locsl" touch and becoming more like scripted robots. Example.. You can't ask "do you want sauce" ie on a bacon roll.. You have to say "red or brown sauce" this actually can confuse people who don't want sauce. Some of them have gotten a bit rude and snapped back "I don't want sauce"
Like most interviews, it's crucial you know a fair bit about the company. They'll ask your opinion on a lot, like how do you think I could do my job better, what do you notice when you go to Greggs, how could we save extra money... a lot of time you can think on your feet and make some stuff up, but I'd definitely recommend having a while to sit and think on it beforehand.
Also, they will ask you your favourite product. Make sure you get the name right haha, I accidentally said "wrap" instead of "pasty"... awkward.
Mainly though just let your personality seem super friendly as, presuming you're going for a team member position at tills, they'll want you to be a friendly happy-to-help kind of person.
To be correct you only get half price on sandwiches, cakes, pastries, hot drinks, if there is a meal deal you don't get half price of that either, it's half price off each item. You do get half price off the sandwich/ baguette platters. Gregg's own cold drinks and other cold drinks it's 20% off. Soup half price. Hope this helps.
