Worst company to work for
Retail Assistant (Former Employee) –  Falmouth, Cornwall6 November 2018
Worked at Grape Tree for nearly a year. Worst company to work for, there's no proper training even though we sell healthy products and vitamins without knowing nothing about products - my manager just made up facts about stuff to customers, work hours alone so if you want to be bored out of your brain this is the job for you, products are cheap so expect lots of complaints and angry customers, this is a good job if you're in your later retired years and just want relax, other than that it's terrible.
Pros
Eat opened food
Cons
Work alone, no toilet breaks, everything

Very boring and unfulfilling, but incredible manager
Customer service assistant (Former Employee) –  England3 June 2018
This was possibly the single most boring job I’ve ever had to do. You are working alone most of the time, and on a quiet day, sometimes don’t see anyone for half an hour. You’re not allowed to sit down, even when there is nobody in the shop, and you literally sit there and watch the clock tick by. On contrast, when it’s really busy over Christmas etc, you’re completely bogged down and struggle to stay afloat as the only member of staff. Pay is minimum wage, and at the end of the day you really feel unfulfilled- as if you have made no difference at all during the day.
BUT, my store manager was the loveliest, friendliest and most accommodating boss I have ever had. They were welcoming and willing to give up their own time to help you with anything regardless of what was happening in the store or in their own life. Truly an inspirational person. The rest of the sales assistant team were brilliant and friendly too, however you didn’t often get to see much of each other. You are also provided with a very good amount of paid holiday leave per year for a part time contract. The customers are lovely and you get to build up relationships with ‘regulars’.

All in all, lovely manager, friendly team and brilliant customers, but a soul numbing, underpaid job with very little career progression. A perfect job for if you are just starting out in the working world or need something a bit more relaxed. If I could give 2.5 stars I would have
Pros
Lovely manager, team, and customers. Good holiday pay.
Cons
Boring, underpaid

Great place to work
Loch Lomond Shores - Retail Assistant (Former Employee) –  Scotland25 May 2018
Great role for someone looking to work independently or with only a few other staff at a time. Relaxed working environment. Allows you to develop a specialised product knowledge of health foods. High level of responsibility including cashing up at the end of trade and being a key holder. Would not recommend for someone unwilling to work independently or someone who would not be suited to a quiet shop environment.
Pros
Easy and relaxed working atmosphere, high levels of responsibility early on in career
Cons
Often short shifts (sometimes 3 hours), Can get lonely if not busy with customers

Enjoyable company to work
Manager (Former Employee) –  Hereford, Herefordshire29 October 2017
Thoroughly enjoyed working for Grape Tree as a manager.
If you enjoy working on your own & using your own initiative then this is the job for you. You learn on the job about all new foods especially healthy ones & if you're really lucky you have a wonderful team & amazing customers.

The job is demanding physically as you have deliveries to deal with & ensuring the shop is to company standards filling up stock & ensuring the place is clean & presentable.

The people at Head Office are great & do not breathe down your neck as long as you get the job done. A lot is expected of you however never more than they expect you to handle (& your job role).

Unfortunately after management there is no further progression & if you are happy with that then there is great job security.
Pros
Excellent team, learning about new foods
Cons
Personally: travel (not a company issue)

Acceptable
Sales Assistant (Former Employee) –  Swansea, Swansea15 February 2017
It was a shop job with little prospect of advancement to save for university tuition. The management, was at times, unresponsive to our requests and the shop was poorly lit. We developed a good rapport with regular customers who appreciated the low pricing of products. However the shop was poorly maintained in terms of damage being repaired etc and the lighting was dingy and I'm sure an off putting factor for some customers who often pointed out that fact.
Pros
Decent Wage
Cons
Poor Management

Satisfactory part time position
Sales Assistant (Current Employee) –  Chippenham24 October 2016
This company is just starting out really. As a part time sales assistant you are expected to work alone. Training is non existent and it is expected that you pick up the skills along the way. I would say I have enjoyed working there only because you don't have anyone breathing down your neck, as long as you complete your daily tasks then the job is very laid back and interesting, especially if you have personal interests in health food and wellbeing.

If you are a fast learner, love health food and healthy living and like a slow paced working environment then go for it!
Pros
No big bosses on your back
Cons
Company makes lots of mistakes

A normal day at work would be stocking up shelves while talking to customers. Making sure there isn't much money in the till just in case. Then closing up and Cashing up.

Management could be improved.

Aren't many so its easy to get along with everyone.

Able to eat some stock if it breaks.

Hardest part would be keeping warm in store.

I have learnt how to cash up, open and close the store.

Productive
Sales Assistant (Former Employee) –  Devon15 April 2015
A typical day at work would involve: Serving customers, dealing with customers enquiries (in person and by telephone, email), keeping the shelves fully stocked, filling in float and takings forms, updating and adding to stock order forms and opening and closing the store.
Cons
Always working alone, there would only be one person working at a time. This would make the busier times in the shop, a challenge and would mean all information, that needed to be passed on, would have to be written in a note, and left for the next person on shift, or would have to be passed on, in a minute or so, whilst you took over from the person working before you.

The customers were lovely but i wasn't trained up for the job, had to train myself. Management are terrible and have no clue of what needs to be done also never turn up on time to the shop or answer calls when needed at the shop. Hours were terrible. Was expected to stay on till whilst working alone in the store but was told off for not stacking selves..
