I liked the people I worked for and enjoyed my time there.
Executive Assistant (Former Employee) –  London, Greater London15 April 2019
I liked the people I worked for and enjoyed my time there.

Every day was busy as the two guys I worked for were in back-to-back meetings or travelling.

Very fast paced and very rewarding.

Good experience but exactly what you expect
Vice President (Current Employee) –  London1 February 2019
It has good interesting problems to solve and potentially vast resources to throw at a solution.

The 'extras' around your job are good, regular external talks from a variety of people on different topics.

The expectation on stuff is to shout about all the small achievements and little credit is given for doing your core job well and ensuring that business continues to flow smoothly.

Trading Floor Secretary (Former Employee) –  Investment Banking Division23 January 2019
Not a very sociable place for junior staff. Work culture lacks a reasonable work/life balance. Teams tend to stick within their departments and are not very engaging. Can be quite isolating at times. No real opportunities for career progression.
Pros
none

Long hours

Wouldn't recommend working here
Customer Service Representative (Current Employee) –  London, Greater London16 January 2019
There is no proper structure. Things almost seem like they are based a lot on preference than rules. Training was great. No fault to their team. they're very good. Management is very poor. Improper communication across the board. All the managers had different ideas as to what was correct procedure and information was not shared properly to agents on calls. I would have rated 0 if it let me. Awful workplace.
Pros
Friendly agents to talk to. That's it.
Cons
The management team and lack of structure

GS is a great place to work, it can be demanding and challenging, but you learn a lot and grow very quickly. Strong teamwork and leadership.Vast number of opportunities to match different skill sets.

Difficult and unpleasant
Sales Advisor (Former Employee) –  St. Pauls2 January 2019
Working at Marcus by Goldman Sachs was difficult due to the hours of work and workplace culture. A typical day at work would be difficult for most as they required "bums on seats" as stated by management. The most enjoyable part of the job would have to be the training that was given by the training team who made the training fun and educational.
Pros
2 breaks and an hour lunch, great canteen food, gym
Cons
discouraging and lack of management skills, inadequate workplace culture

Department Leader (Former Employee) –  London, England, UK21 October 2018
Highly competitive but collaborative culture. Relentless in terms of pace, however this is balanced against learning opportunities and exposure to some of the best people in the industry. It is not for the faint-hearted but can be immensely rewarding both personally and professionally.

working with the sharpest people i know
commodity derivative trader (Former Employee) –  Greater London28 August 2018
This place is really a group of the sharpest minds around. I know, there is a lot of bad press coming from the financial crisis but none of it is warranted - the people who actually understand this business and know what they are talking about will tell you that this is a collection of the smartest people all working together in a well-defined corporate culture.

Goldman helps teach you how to think both creatively and analytically. It's hard work and the work life balance is terrible, but it did help me move my career forward.

FICC Capital Optimisation - Global Manager - VP (Current Employee) –  London29 April 2018
The management and people of Goldman Sachs strive to create and maintain an environment that cultivates success.

The firm operates a distinctly lean and demanding operating model which, when combined with support and resources, creates a platform from which to excel.

I have primarily enjoyed working at the firm because of its focus on the development of its people and team culture. I have been constantly challenged to improve, both professionally and personally and feel that I have been well recognised and rewarded for my contributions - even from a junior level.

The lean operating model does put pressure on maintaining work/life balance but the firm is open to accommodating flexible working arrangements where needed.
Pros
Career progression, Meritocracy, Empowered at all levels, culture of success, teamwork
Cons
Lean operation model puts significant pressure on maintaining work life balance

Challenging environment
Equity Client Services Associate (Current Employee) –  London3 April 2018
Challenging working environment - great for new joiners to the industry. Great training of BAU tasks and transferable skills. Management lack the ability to motivate staff appropriately when the ask is very high. Fast paced and exciting. Thoroughly enjoyed my time here however hard to grow a long term career that suits both the individual and the firm. Work with extremely intelligent and dedicated people, however the hard working environment can sometimes be demotivating and create a negative atmosphere among peers. Extremely competitive which leads to a lot of work politics. On the whole a great firm with an exemplary reputation in the industry for churning out a high calibre of employees.

Zero command structure
F&O Client Onboarding (Exec Director) (Current Employee) –  London7 March 2018
Goldman Sachs is a very flat company where there is no managerial structure to drive change and commit to a single path that all teams should drive towards.

This causes issues were multiple pieces of software are used to perform the same role. It also is a breeding ground for inefficiency and indecision, as teams cannot agree which path to take and there is no figurehead to make the decision on the right path
Cons
Lots of fighting between tech teams on ownership

Intense and Demanding Environment
Support Analyst (Former Employee) –  London, Greater London15 February 2018
There were two 8-5 or 9-6, providing a IT Help Desk Support to over a 1000 end-users on-site, multi-site and overseas. The role entailed learning mainly in-house applications. The demands of the role were intense. The most difficult part at the time had been the cliquey culture where long term staff were very selective in their acceptance of the new or recently newly recruited staff. The one consolation had been the opportunity to meet new staff during overtime or events during the weekend.
Pros
Overtime, Good name to have on your CV
Cons
Long hours
